Sr Technical Specialist

Harley-Davidson Motor Company is seeking a Senior Technical Specialist for their Vehicle Measurements Group at the Arizona Proving Ground (APG). This role is responsible for setting up and enabling vehicle measurements and data acquisition to support product and systems engineering tests, ensuring data integrity and collaborating with various teams to achieve testing goals.

Responsibilities

Installation and setup of instrumentation and data acquisition components in support of executing technically meaningful tests on motorcycles
Review data to ensure data acquisition systems are functioning properly and the data is valid
Collaborate with engineers, technical specialists, mechanics and riders, as needed to ensure the best results for the product
Contribute to test and lab goals for work order completion and quality while demonstrating Fairness and Honesty in all interactions with a Positive attitude and while finding Creative solutions in their work
Support all lab related activities beyond test such as continuous improvement and 5S activities
Be a technical resource for contract technicians when appropriate

Required

High School Diploma or Equivalent
5 years of experience in a test and/or engineering environment
Demonstrate understanding of data acquisition systems and techniques through successful setup/execution of test projects
Understanding of general data acquisition systems and methods
Basic understanding of engineering units and the conversion process inherent with Data Acquisition
Experience with the following types of data acquisition systems desired (HBM eDaq/eDaq-lite, IMC DataWorks, Campbell-Scientific, etc)
Skilled with soldering techniques, hard wiring, and cable management
Understanding of reference coordinates and relationship to vehicle testing
Basic working knowledge of electrical circuits and electronic theory and application
Basic understanding of Wheatstone Bridge behaviors and the application to strain gages
Basic knowledge of ground theory and potential impacts to instrumentation/measurement results
Has independently and successfully applied instrumentation tools and techniques to projects
Understands basic thermocouple function, use, and applications
Basic knowledge of a variety of transducers such as: Pressure transducers, Accelerometers (various types), Force transducers, Position/velocity transducers, Strain gages, Optical/Magnetic triggers/sensors, GPS based position/velocity/acceleration sensors
Basic mechanical skills with hand tools to assemble/disassemble data acquisition systems and install/remove them from test vehicles

Preferred

Associates Degree or higher in an engineering or other related technical discipline
