Engineering Traffic Analyst Intern - Summer 2026

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will support the development and implementation of technologies and strategies to enhance traffic signal system performance and road user safety while addressing regional and statewide mobility goals
Conduct research, data collection, and analysis related to traffic flow, and mobility patterns using tools such as travel demand modeling and GIS
Prepare reports, forecasts, and technical documents to support transportation studies and guide project decision-making. Assist in the development of dashboards, databases, and other reporting tools
Leverage experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, and workflow automation to improve operational efficiency, proactivity, and consistency
Collaborate with government agencies, communities, and private sector clients, working to ensure project outcomes address the needs of diverse populations
Analyze traffic operations, congestion management strategies, and safety improvement measures, providing practical recommendations to enhance the efficiency and safety of transportation networks. Collaborate with environmental specialists, urban planners, and other professionals to integrate transportation systems with broader land use and environmental planning objectives

Required

No experience is generally required if accepted into an Associate's or Bachelor's degree program in a related technical field
Data analysis from a transportation and traffic management perspective
Progress towards BS or MS in civil engineering or data analysis
Proficiency with systems including PowerBI (strong understanding), VISSIM, Synchro, GIS, and/or Auto-CAD

Preferred
