Building Automation Systems Controls Engineer

Responsibilities

Provides direction, focus, guidance, support, and prioritization for a well-developed campus-wide BAS infrastructure
Ensures the central BAS and individual workstations are functioning properly
Drives energy efficiency initiatives by developing methods, practices, and metrics to monitor and modify building system sequences of operation
Provides supervisors and service technicians with expert technical support, leveraging the BAS as a primary diagnostic tool
Performs contract administration for BAS-related work
Coordinates with IT Services on long-range networking and hardware infrastructure needs
Develops and enforces policies and work practices that result in accurate as-built drawings and documented sequences of operation for all building systems
Stays abreast of industry trends and recommends the adoption of mature, beneficial technology for the campus BAS
Is responsible for maintaining and developing new processes to support an HVAC/controls retro-commissioning team to ensure existing buildings operate at peak efficiency
Monitors the use of personal protective equipment and procedures to ensure all maintenance and testing operations are conducted in a safe manner

Required

Bachelor's degree in a related field plus a minimum of five (5) years of full-time experience programming, installing, maintaining, and/or operating a complex building automation system; (OR)
Related associate's degree plus a minimum of eight (8) years of full-time experience programming, installing, maintaining, and/or operating a complex building automation system; (OR)
A minimum of ten (10) years of full-time, verifiable experience programming, installing, maintaining, and/or operating a complex building automation system
Thorough knowledge of network infrastructure, control processes, hardware, BAS software, and systems integration
Strong working knowledge of large-scale facility systems, including electrical devices, air-conditioning, heating, ventilation, chillers, boilers, energy management systems, fan systems, and pumping systems
The ability to read, interpret, and understand drawings, specifications, sequences of operation, and other technical data
Proven ability to create and modify complex programs within a Siemens Apogee/Desigo system
Ability to maintain detailed and complete records of system alterations and perform clear notifications for system outages
Excellent ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and translate complex technical information for a wide range of persons, including non-technical stakeholders
A thorough understanding of modern customer service theories and practices
Must be able to successfully handle multiple tasks at once and determine appropriate priorities
Must be able to make independent interpretations and decisions that are in the best interest of the organization
Must be proficient in the use of business application software and experienced in the use of a computerized maintenance management software (CMMS)

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in Engineering plus a minimum of five (5) years of full-time experience programming, installing, maintaining, and/or operating a complex building automation system
Direct experience managing a BAS in a large, multi-building campus environment
Experience and knowledge of Siemens & Delta Building Automation Systems and their programming languages
Experience with HVAC new construction commissioning, re-commissioning, and BACnet protocol
Professional certification such as Certified Automation Professional (CAP), Certified Controls Engineer (CCE), or Siemens SITRAIN Certification
