Employee Benefits Attorney
Miller Johnson is seeking an experienced Employee Benefits Attorney to join their Labor & Employment practice group. In this role, you will partner with clients to design and implement employee benefit programs while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Responsibilities
Partner with clients to design, implement, and communicate effective employee benefit programs
Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
Advise on executive compensation and nonqualified deferred compensation arrangements
Counsel clients on fiduciary responsibilities, plan governance, and risk management
Advise employers on the compliance of health and welfare benefit plans
Draft and review wrap documents, SPDs, employee communications, and administrative policies for group health and welfare plans
Counsel clients on fiduciary and vendor issues
Support corporate transactions by conducting due diligence on retirement and health & welfare benefit plans
Assist in compliance audits, investigations, and self-correction programs
Qualification
Required
J.D. from an accredited law school
Admission to the Michigan Bar, or eligibility for admission
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in employee benefits law
Strong knowledge of retirement and compensation plan design, compliance, and administration
Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
Commitment to client service and ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders
Preferred
Advising employers on the compliance of health and welfare benefit plans (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, cafeteria, wellness, and voluntary benefits)
Understanding of health plan regulatory frameworks: ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, MHPAEA, ERISAI, and related DOL/HHS/IRS guidance
Experience drafting and reviewing wrap documents, SPDs, employee communications, and administrative policies for group health and welfare plans
Ability to counsel clients on fiduciary and vendor issues (insurers, TPAs, pharmacy benefit managers, and wellness vendors)
Experience supporting corporate transactions (M&A, reorganizations) by conducting due diligence on both retirement and health & welfare benefit plans
Familiarity with compliance audits, investigations, and self-correction programs (IRS, DOL)
