Graduate (6-12month) Internship – Power Systems Optimization
The National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) is the nation's primary laboratory for energy systems research and development. They are seeking highly motivated research interns to work with world-class researchers in power systems integration, focusing on transmission in future power systems and the application of AI in transmission expansion planning.

Responsibilities
Developing, updating and running large-scale production cost models
Developing powerflow models for the purposes of transmission expansion planning needs
Contributing towards technical documentation and/or the preparation of publications
Managing data through collation and validation of large scale data sets for power system analysis
Collaborate with NREL researchers in a team based environment
Qualification
Required
Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average
Undergraduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor's degree program from an accredited institution
Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor's degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year
Graduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master's degree program from an accredited institution
Post Graduate: Earned a master's degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year
Graduate + PhD: Completed master's degree and enrolled as PhD student from an accredited institution
The successful candidate will have completed a bachelor's degree and either be enrolled in or have completed a master's program, or be currently enrolled in a PhD program, in electrical engineering, optimization, or a related field
Strong analytical skills (demonstrated experience with data management, analysis, and interpretation)
Knowledge or experience with quantitative modelling workflows (powerflow, production-cost etc.)
Demonstrated knowledge or experience in power systems and optimization
Demonstrated experience using python, Julia, or other major programming language
Preferred
Knowledge or experience with bulk power systems would be a bonus (transmission)
Demonstrated knowledge or experience with the deployment of LLM agents
