Responsibilities

Lead all aspects of bridge-related projects, including design staff, inspection teams, subconsultants, and suppliers to ensure successful completion
Develop and communicate the Project Management Plan, defining scope, schedule, budget, quality standards, risk management strategies, and safety protocols specific to bridge and structural engineering work
Effectively manage scope and technical requirements for complex bridge projects, ensuring alignment with client expectations and regulatory standards
Maintain detailed project schedules, proactively reducing delays by identifying opportunities for concurrent task execution
Monitor project budgets and expenditures, implementing cost-control strategies to keep bridge projects within defined financial parameters
Uphold rigorous quality standards, ensuring deliverables meet applicable codes (AASHTO, state DOT/Turnpike authorities, etc.)
Serve as the primary client contact, ensuring consistent communication, timely responses, and strong relationship management
Collaborate with internal bridge engineering, inspection, and construction-phase services teams to support project execution and technical alignment
Efficiently allocate resources, ensuring teams are staffed appropriately for design, modeling, analysis, and field efforts
Identify, assess, and manage project risks—including structural, safety, schedule, and permitting risks—and develop mitigation plans
Mentor and support junior and mid-level Bridge Project Managers and Engineers, fostering growth within the bridge practice
Ensure compliance with all KCI policies, procedures, and engineering standards
Provide input into the development and implementation of project-specific safety plans for bridge inspections, fieldwork, and construction-phase services
Negotiate contract terms, scope, and fees with clients and subconsultants for bridge engineering projects
Develop project schedules from planning through construction, optimizing sequencing of structural design, load rating, inspection, and analysis workflows
Prepare and manage subcontracts for specialized bridge services (e.g., geotechnical, survey, non-destructive testing)
Report monthly proposal and business development metrics to the Senior PM or Practice Leader
Meet individual utilization expectations (typically 70–80%)
Track and report project performance, implementing corrective actions when needed
Deliver all bridge projects on time, within budget, and fully in accordance with contract scope
Prepare monthly project progress reports and participate in project review meetings
Manage project cash flow (WIP/AR) and coordinate with Finance and Operations
Set up new projects and provide weekly updates to the Practice Leader
Continually identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce project costs
Participate in bridge project opportunity evaluations, consultant selections, and preparation of SOQs and technical proposals
Identify new business opportunities, lead proposal development efforts, and promote KCI’s bridge engineering capabilities to existing and prospective clients
Support project closeout by preparing project write-ups, summaries, and photographs for marketing and resumes
Engage in at least one industry or community organization (ASCE, ASHE, ACEC, IABSE, etc.)
Fully manage and oversee bridge design, inspection, load rating, rehabilitation, or construction-phase engineering deliverables
Conduct site visits for bridge inspections, data collection, measurements, sketches, and condition assessments
Compare field data to design plans and identify discrepancies requiring engineering judgment
Prepare and review all phases of bridge design plans, reports, calculations, and specifications
Read and interpret technical documents, contract plans, and DOT standards relevant to bridge structures
Make informed decisions regarding technical challenges during design or construction support
Maintain expertise in current AASHTO, FHWA, and State DOT policies, procedures, and design guidelines

Required

Professional Engineer (PE) license required (or the ability to obtain within 3 months)
Extensive experience managing bridge engineering projects (design, inspection, rehabilitation, or major structure projects)
Significant experience coordinating with state DOTs, toll authorities, and public-sector clients
Bachelor's Degree in related field (AEC Industry) and minimum of 4 years of related professional experience, or 8 years of equivalent professional experience
Participation in continuing education and professional development programs
Proven experience in project management roles, with a track record of successful project delivery
Demonstrated leadership abilities to inspire and motivate project teams
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders
Deep technical knowledge in the specific field of the project
Expertise in project management software and tools, with the ability to develop and maintain comprehensive project plans and documentation
Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to project management, quality assurance, and safety protocols
Effective problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement solutions in a fast-paced environment
Strong negotiation skills to manage multiple contracts, scope changes, and stakeholder agreements effectively
Strong comprehension of accounting principles to effectively manage project budgets, financial reporting, and resource allocation
Ability to complete the KCI PM Training and Contract Risk Training along with passing the PM Board within 6 months of start date
