OSP Engineer

The OSP Engineer will plan and prepare drawings for the construction of overhead or underground links, ensuring cost-effective utilization of communications facilities and managing project timelines.

Responsibilities
Designs fiber cable fields, splicing sequences, planning and prepares cost estimates and design loss calculations to accomplish OSP construction projects; delivering FTTH network from source to the point at which Service Operations Technicians can turn up service
Maps and drafts utilizing CAD and manual processes & research and updates International Construction Measurement Standards (ICMS) records, appropriate permits, and ISP designs
Manages and tracks OSP work schedules to ensure alignment with project requirements and timelines develops cost studies, performs estimates, reports on project progress, as well budget forecasting, tracking, & reporting
Liaise with city officials to manage permitting processes and ensure compliance
Liaises with customers regarding land acquisitions for easements
Provides real-time direction to colleagues to meet project timelines & contractual obligations
Communicates and appropriately escalates contractual, technical, or scheduling requirements that are in jeopardy
Notifies leadership of any sensitive issues that could affect customer or project progress
Reviews of all permits, rights of way, easements, and negotiations needed for project completion
Tracks and follows up on all issues and actions encountered by colleagues and vendors
Integrate innovations into design and engineering practices and work
Collaborate with the Sales Team on an as-needed basis to develop tailored design solutions for potential customers
Oversees and guide design-permitting vendors, ensuring their work aligns with business objectives and project requirements
Performs other duties as assigned, including departmental and cross-functional projects
Qualification
Required

Ability to select the most cost-beneficial route for all lines and equipment for projects
Experience preparing detailed construction and installation drawings
Ability to provide estimates of labor and material costs

Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated project management experience
Strong knowledge of OSHA rules, site safety, National Electric Safety Code (NESC) requirements, and associated construction and telecommunications federal and local regulations
Proficient in MS Office; able to create reports, presentations, and project documentation
Able to respond promptly, manage multiple tasks & customer needs, and prioritize progress toward deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Working knowledge of all aspects of company processes including but limited to OSP construction, site preparation and permitting, OSP testing and acceptance standards, creating design for local L2 and Transport architecture, Google Earth and various fiber mapping platforms
5+ years' technical experience working in OSP Engineering, Construction, or Operations
High school diploma or equivalent required
Proactive, independent, and collaborative - takes initiative to keep on-task and on-target
Fiber and telecommunications industry experience is essential, with a strong understanding of industry standards, technologies, & processes critical for success in this role
Frequently operates computer, keyboard, and related peripherals
Near-constant use of sight, speech, hearing, comprehension, and reasoning

Associate's degree preferred
