Lead Full Stack Engineer (Remote - United States)
Hexagon is a global leader in digital reality solutions, and they are seeking a Lead Full Stack Engineer to join their team. This role is responsible for leading the development, maintenance, and optimization of ETQ web applications and services, driving high-quality deliverables across the full technology stack.
Responsibilities
Lean into challenges with problem-solving mindset instead of waiting for perfect requirements or direction
Act as a force-multiplier for the team by coaching, pairing, and giving actionable feedback that helps others grow their skills and confidence
Demonstrate a bias for action while still exercising good judgment and raising risks early when you see them
Model high standards in code quality, documentation, and testing, and help the team hold the same bar without being dogmatic
Design, implement, and ship customer-facing features end-to-end that meet agreed acceptance criteria and UX/design specifications
Collaborate with Product, UX, QA, and other engineers in an Agile/Scrum setup to refine requirements and break work into deliverable slices
Own the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of backend services and frontend components
Apply TDD/TFD/BDD practices pragmatically to keep the codebase robust, testable, and easy to change
Write clean, secure, and well-structured code that follows modern engineering best practices and team standards
Contribute across the full stack: APIs, services, data access, and web UI (and occasionally mobile/web-hybrid where needed)
Build and optimize systems for performance, scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency in a cloud environment
Troubleshoot, debug, and refactor existing components and services to improve reliability, performance, and maintainability
Evaluate and introduce appropriate new tools, frameworks, and patterns that improve developer productivity and application quality
Provide clear, high-quality updates on work items (e.g., tickets), including scope, rationale for changes, and impacted areas
Work effectively with distributed teams and stakeholders across multiple time zones
Develop, modify, and maintain modern web applications using Angular (or similar frameworks), JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3; integrate these with backend APIs and services
Contribute to and improve CI/CD pipelines, code review practices, and other engineering workflows that support fast, safe delivery
Qualification
Required
12+ years of experience in mainly Java & Python or equivalent back-end programming language
1+ years of experience of formal or informal technical leadership
Excellent understanding of object-oriented programming and design
Experience in development of distributed/scalable systems and high-volume transaction applications
Excellent knowledge of coding best practices and design patterns
Good Experience with TDD/TFD/BDD
Hands-on experience with modern front-end frameworks such as AngularJS or React
Experience with Integrating applications and services using different approaches according to the use case
Excellent experience with writing, modifying & troubleshooting Restful APIs
Strong understanding of Relational Databases (RDMS) and referential integrity
Excellent experience with creating, modifying and optimizing SQL queries
Experience with version control systems
Experience with secure coding practices
Strong problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills, verbal, and written with the ability to converse effectively at all levels within the organization
Good knowledge/experience of Amazon Web Services and/or Azure or Google Cloud Platform
Demonstrated willingness to take end-to-end ownership of features and systems, not just individual tasks
Growth mindset: actively seeks feedback, learns from mistakes, and continuously improves
Proven ability to lift others up mentoring, pairing, and sharing knowledge to help the team grow
“One team” mentality: avoids “not my job,” collaborates across roles and time zones, and helps wherever the work is
Comfortable working in ambiguity and helping to shape requirements, not just implement them
Preferred
Bachelor's and/or master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related technical discipline
Experience with database migrations, particularly AWS DMS a big plus
SQLines experience would be a plus
Experience developing cross-browser and cross-platform compatible solutions
Experience and with CI/CD technologies (Terraform, CloudFormation, Puppet/Chef/Ansible, Jenkins, etc.)
Experience with a highly available and scalable SaaS solution
Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, GitHub Copilot, JetBrains AI Assistant) to improve code quality, test coverage, and delivery speed
Experience integrating LLM-based services and APIs (e.g., OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Azure OpenAI) into applications or internal tooling
