CLOUDHQ - Electrical Design Engineer
CloudHQ is a growing organization focused on providing efficient data center solutions. The Electrical Design Engineer will lead the design and delivery of sustainable electrical systems for data centers, collaborating with various teams to ensure high standards of performance and efficiency.
Data Center
Responsibilities
Lead (and be the single point of accountability for) the concept design of electrical systems with a focus on reliability, efficiency, and sustainability
Manage third-party consultant teams in developing detailed designs, ensuring continuous improvement to CloudHQ’s standard solutions
Oversee design deliverables, project specifications, schedules, and task allocations to ensure high-quality, timely output
Support campus planning, entitlements, design, and permitting processes from site acquisition through construction document delivery on multiple, simultaneous projects
Collaborate closely with customers to integrate their technical requirements into CloudHQ data center designs
Partner with Preconstruction and Construction teams in bid reviews, contract awards, and construction oversight to ensure work meets specifications and offers best value
Liaise with global design colleagues to share best practices and ensure consistency of standards across all CloudHQ developments
Coordinate with the Operations team to ensure designs align with operational best practices and lifecycle cost efficiency. Gather performance feedback from active sites and incorporate insights into updated design standards
Research emerging electrical and controls technologies, identifying opportunities for improvement
Contribute to CloudHQ’s global design standards, ensuring consistency across regions while adapting to local climate, regulatory, and operational requirements
Develop creative solutions and innovations to drive individual and team performance
Identify and share lessons learned and integrate improvements into future projects
Champion CHQ initiatives on all projects
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related discipline
Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred
5+ years' experience designing electrical systems for data centers or mission-critical facilities, including at least two years in a lead design role
Proven ability to manage external design consultants and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams
Deep knowledge of electrical systems in mission critical environments
Strong problem-solving skills with expertise in quantitative and qualitative analysis, and technical oversight
Sound decision making ability, combining independent judgement with expert input to make high-stakes decisions with direct impact to project outcomes
Familiarity with data center mechanical infrastructure and integration
Proficiency in design tools and documentation processes
Strong communicator with the ability to translate complex technical information for varied audiences
Effective influencer, able to build trust and align stakeholders toward a common solution
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a high-growth, rapidly evolving, and ambiguous environment
Strategic thinker with a continuous improvement mindset and ability to balance short term priorities with long term goals
Willingness and ability to travel locally, nationally, and internationally
Flexible and committed, with the ability and willingness to work extended hours when required to meet critical deadlines
