ES Battery Engineer - Lead

Responsibilities

Design and optimize ES components, focusing on efficiency and performance within FIA regulations
Develop and refine control strategies for energy recovery and deployment
Collaborate with powertrain and vehicle dynamics teams to integrate ES with other power unit systems
Analyze ES performance data and implement improvements to enhance overall power unit efficiency and reliability
Ensure ES design and operation comply with FIA regulations, including weight limits and energy deployment restrictions
Develop strategies to optimize ES thermal performance and longevity
Participate in track testing and race weekend operations to support MGU performance
Work closely with drivers and race engineers to optimize ES energy deployment and recovery strategies for different circuits and race conditions

Required

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
Minimum 5 years of experience in motorsport, preferably in Formula 1, Formula-E, or other hybrid or EV-based high-performance racing series
Strong understanding of lithium-ion battery technology, power electronics, and control systems
Experience with simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink for energy system modeling and optimization
Strong capability in data analysis and performance modeling of complex electromechanical systems
Thorough understanding of FIA technical regulations pertaining to energy recovery systems
Advanced knowledge of MGU systems and their integration with F1 hybrid power units
Advanced knowledge of lithium-ion battery systems and their integration with F1 hybrid power units
Expertise in high-performance energy storage system design and optimization
Proficiency in thermal management of high-performance electrical systems
Experience with energy recovery strategies and power deployment optimization
Familiarity with computational modeling tools for battery performance simulation
Innovative problem-solver with a passion for motorsport technology
Excellent communicator capable of working effectively in a fast-paced team environment
Detail-oriented with a strong focus on system optimization and efficiency
Adaptable and able to thrive under the pressure of race weekends and tight development schedules
