CHILD AND YOUTH PROGRAM ASSISTANT (TECHNICIAN LEVEL) MVO

The position is located at the Youth Center at Peterson SFB. The Child and Youth Program Assistant will serve as a mentor for child and youth staff, assist in training lower-level employees, and ensure the safety and development of children and youth ranging from 6 weeks to 18 years old.

Responsibilities

Serve as a mentor for assigned child and youth staff
Works with senior staff to provide instruction and training to lower-level employees
Assists trainer in helping lower level employees with completion of the modules and help translate professional development training into practice
Models appropriate behaviors and techniques for working with children/youth
Assists lower level employees in their efforts to receive a Child Development Associate/Youth Development credential
Records observations and charts progress of team member's on-the-job skills and reports findings to trainer
Frequently consults trainer on strategies to further assist team member's professional development efforts
Provides input to the supervisor as requested concerning promotions, reassignments, performance appraisals, incentive awards, etc
Provides input to child and youth training plan based on observed training needs
Works in ratio with children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years
Accountable for the whereabouts and safety of children/youth
Oversees arrival/departure of children/youth
Supervises children/ youth during daily schedule of indoor and outdoor activities, on field trips, outings, and special events
Plans, coordinates, and conducts activities for program participants based on observed needs of individual children/youth
Prepares and implements program options for children/youth with special requirements
Encourages program options for children/youth with special requirements
Encourages participant interest and establishes a program setting that promotes positive child/youth interactions with other children, youth, and adults
Recommends to trainer and program leader changes and adjustments to activities and plans where necessary to meet unusual situations
Continually reviews activities and plans for appropriateness
Works with trainer, supervisor, and program leader to implement activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of children/youth
Works with team members to prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate daily schedule
Assists children/youth with special projects, homework, and life skills
Interacts with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques
Interacts professionally with staff members, parents, supervisor, and volunteers
Briefs other employees and parents
Notes special instructions provided by parents
Ensures children/youth depart with an authorized person according to written parental instructions
Plans and conducts parent involvement activities to encourage parents to become involved
Observes program participants for signs that may indicate illness, abuse or neglect and reports as directed
Sets up displays and bulletin boards
Arranges for/serves appropriate snacks/meals where applicable
Inventories equipment on a recurring basis and recommends replenishing damage, missing and depleted supplies
Secures supplies, equipment, and facilities
Collects, maintains and reports program participation data
Uses designated evaluation materials to ensure assigned area is in compliance with AF standards and metrics
Ensures assigned area achieves and maintains standards for DoD certification and national accreditation or equivalent
Provides care/supervision, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with AF local policies, guidance, and standards
Ensures compliance with policies and regulations applicable to AF Child and Youth Programs
Acts as the manager in non-routine/emergency situations for purposes of opening/closing of facility
Performs other related duties as assigned

Required

Must be at least 18 years of age, hold a high school diploma (or equivalent)
Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
Must possess one of the following: 24 months (2 years) working in a childcare or youth program, completion of DoD approved competency training courses; or 24 months (2 years) of specialized experience working in a group program with children or youth and an associate degree or at least 60 semester hours with a major course of study (24 credit hours) which directly relates to the age group to which assigned; or possession and maintenance of one of the following directly related to the age group of the position to which assigned: child development associate credential, military school age credential, Army youth practicum or other nationally recognized youth development credential; or a bachelor's degree or at least 120 semester hours with a major course of study (24 credit hours) from a regionally accredited college or university with content directly related to: early childhood education, child development, youth development, human development, elementary education, special education, secondary education, youth program administration, recreation, and physical education
This position requires satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks in accordance with Air Force and DoD policy, and a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation
This position has been identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent of this position will be subject to and must consent to a pre-employment and random drug testing
This position has physical lifting requirement which requires the incumbent to complete a favorable pre-employment physical
This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain, maintain, and provide evidence of current immunizations this includes annual influenza vaccinations and be free of all communicable diseases
This position requires the incumbent to complete assigned training, to include Food Handlers certification, within specified time from date hire or assignment to position

Child Development Program will provide 100% childcare fee discount for all CYP staff for the first child enrolled in a full-time or regular part-time DAF CDP. A 37% discount will apply for each subsequent child.
