Intern - Habitat Biologist (Summer)
The State of South Dakota is offering an internship opportunity with the Department of Game, Fish and Parks. The Intern is responsible for assisting in the implementation of habitat management plans on game production areas, involving various field duties such as planting, fencing, and wildlife surveys.

Responsibilities
Assisting in the implantation of habitat management plans on game production areas in the northwest district of Region 4 in northeast South Dakota
Planting trees, grass and food plots
Fencing
Tree removal
Mowing
Assisting with prescribed fire
Signing public land
Noxious weed management
Native seed harvesting
Completing the herbicide application testing
Attaining firefighter training
Assisting with wildlife surveys and bird banding
Qualification
Required
APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply
By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program
Preferred
Applicants with experience using tractors, trucks, ATVs and herbicide application equipment are preferred but not required
Preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions
