Junior Systems Administrator
Hoar Construction is seeking a Junior Systems Administrator to provide fundamental support and assist senior IT staff with projects related to the company's IT infrastructure. This role focuses on skill development and includes responsibilities such as routine administration, disaster recovery, and identity and access management.

Responsibilities
Perform daily checks, monitoring, and preventative maintenance on virtual and physical servers, backup systems, and storage arrays
Monitor and verify daily backup job success and assist in conducting regular recovery tests
Manage the user lifecycle, including the creation, modification, and deletion of user accounts in Active Directory and cloud services (e.g., M365)
Responsible for the deployment and verification of operating system patches, security updates, and endpoint protection software across the environment (servers, endpoints, network devices)
Assist the team in updating and maintaining the department's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), knowledge base articles, and system configuration records
Serve as a Tier 1 escalation point for advanced technical issues involving server and network performance or core application stability
Proactively monitor the health and performance of the network, including switches, firewalls, and wireless access points (APs), alerting the Lead Admin to critical issues
Responsible for the basic setup, configuration, and troubleshooting of network devices (switches, routers, APs)
Manage and troubleshoot essential network services such as DHCP and DNS across the network infrastructure
Diagnose and resolve basic connectivity issues, VLAN assignment problems, and VPN access issues for remote users
Maintain organization and proper labeling of network cabling and patching in the data center and communication closets
Assist the Senior System Administrator with the hands-on deployment and configuration of new infrastructure components for approved system and network projects
Maintain an accurate inventory of IT hardware and software assets, tracking assignments, service tags, and warranty information
Qualification
Required
Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a technical field (e.g., IT, Computer Science) or relevant vocational training/certifications plus 1 year of equivalent work experience
Technical Foundations: Solid fundamental understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, subnetting, cabling) and server operating systems (Windows Server)
Soft Skills: A strong desire to learn, excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, and a professional demeanor for internal user interaction
Preferred
Familiarity with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V)
Practical experience or coursework in configuring switches and routers
Relevant entry-level certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Server+)
