Grand Jury and Freedom of Information Act Coordinator

Responsibilities
Serving as point of contact on grand jury investigations and procedures for attorneys, investigative agents, records custodians and court personnel, providing information and assistance relating to grand jury investigations/matters scheduled for grand jury, and legal and administrative procedures to be followed
Conducting interviews of potential grand jurors to decide who should be excused based on hardship
Filing motions to excuse, replacing and extending grand jurors. Reviewing documents and other materials produced pursuant to subpoena
Conducting general legal research on grand jury matters using the grand jury manual and other legal and/or on-line references
Assuring compliance with Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) dictates and secures documentation, catalogs it and forwards it to the appropriate reviewing official
Qualification
Required
All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period
Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement
You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position
Applicants must possess and demonstrate in their application packages that they meet the following minimum qualifications: GS-07: To be eligible at the GS-07 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience
Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as performing the following types of duties: maintaining files, logs, transcripts, and reports related to legal matters; examining, preparing, and processing a variety of legal documents; maintaining official calendars and coordinating scheduling with multiple parties; conducting basic legal research using software applications and legal and non-legal databases
Education: One full year of graduate education that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the work of the position OR Completion of a full four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree and meet one of the following superior academic achievement provisions: (1) a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher for all completed undergraduate course work or for all courses completed in the last two full years of undergraduate work; (2) a GPA of 3.5 or higher for all courses in the major field of study, or those courses in a major completed in the last two full years of undergraduate work; (3) ranking in the upper one-third of a college, university, or major subdivision or (4) membership in a national scholastic honor society
Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements
GS-09: To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience
Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as performing the following types of duties: acting as technical adviser on grand jury matters; handling information access programs i.e. Freedom of Information Act, Public Records Law, etc.; examining, preparing, and processing a variety of legal documents, including redacting confidential and legally exempt information; conducting legal research using software applications and legal and non-legal databases
Education: One of the following types of education: a Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B. or J.D.); OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position
Combining Education and Experience: A combination of specialized experience and graduate education (as described above), which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate level education must be in excess of 1 full year
