Engineering Manager - Materials Science
Chemelex is a global leader in electric thermal and sensing solutions, protecting the world’s critical processes, places and people. The Engineering Manager will provide technical expertise and peer leadership to qualifications, quality investigations, product improvements, and manage a team of technicians responsible for prototyping and laboratory testing.

Responsibilities
Manage a team of laboratory technicians
Define, prioritize, monitor, and hold team members accountable for work progression including tracking and reporting task backlog, cycle-time, and on-time completion
Conduct recruitment activities
Conduct performance reviews and reinforce individual development plans
Be a subject matter expert for heat-tracing and polymer technologies
Propose, develop, and support product and process improvements, cost reductions, and enhancements based on product design, industry standards, customer value, and available technology
Provide technical expertise and leadership in the resolution of complex and novel product issues related to construction, application, and operation
Partner with Applications Engineering to maintain long-term portfolio roadmap. Act broadly to align business objectives and priorities of the Product Engineering domain
Conduct research to support innovation. Lead and influence cross-functional peers with your analyses and conclusions
Participate in knowledge transfer from NPI including technical design reviews, FAI, and post-launch technical support
Maintain knowledge of previous generations of products. Discover and integrate new and advanced technologies
Understand needs of customers by participating in VOC
Write invention disclosures (as needed) and protect intellectual property
Provide thought leadership through technical reports, published papers, seminars, and active participation in the technical community, such as industry associations and technical conferences
Serve as the technical leader on sustainment projects
Define, initiate, monitor, and manage sustainment workstreams and work progression in conjunction with PMO procedures
Develop project plans to validate product design intent and compliance with codes and standards
Lead global project teams. Manage technical portion of project execution achieving and documenting expected results while ensuring long-term technical fortitude
Manage project execution with limited oversight. Coordinate internal and external laboratory resources. Develop qualification plans in accordance with Chemelex and industry standards
Qualification
Required
MS or equivalent degree in science or engineering (Materials, Metallurgy, Ceramics, Polymers, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering). PhD degree desirable
Proven success working with global teams and leading cross-functional technical projects
Excellent engineering ability and aptitude
Experience managing direct reports. Experience mentoring junior engineers
Excellent communication skills with emphasis on team dynamics. Comfortable influencing peers and reporting out to leadership
Developed project management skills
Practical experience with manufacturing processes
A passion for taking initiative. Proven success running multiple simultaneous projects
Preferred
Polymer processing and/or extrusion is desirable
Knowledge of global hazardous and non-hazardous area approvals for electrical equipment is desirable
Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software, with preference for Enovia, is a plus
