As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you will build and enhance backend systems that power eligibility and benefits verification, ensuring scalability and compliance while collaborating closely with engineering and product teams.

Responsibilities

Own the design and development of backend services that power Nirvana’s eligibility and benefits verification engine

Partner with Data Scientists and ML Engineers to shape data pipelines and improve the precision of our predictive and classification models

Work closely with partners and payers to integrate new data sources and expand eligibility and benefits coverage

Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security across ingestion, transformation, and verification workflows

Build systems that meet HIPAA, SOC2, and other relevant compliance and data privacy standards

Collaborate with Product and Operations teams to turn complex real-world requirements into reliable, scalable engineering solutions

Help shape architectural decisions, contribute to engineering standards, and mentor teammates to elevate technical quality across the team

Required

Strong experience with backend systems and Python programming

Solid understanding of microservices architecture and RESTful API design

Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes)

Proficiency in SQL and familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g. Mongo DB)

Experience owning end-to-end delivery of features or projects, including design, implementation, and rollout

Comfortable working in a fast-paced, iterative startup environment

Passion for solving complex challenges within the healthcare sector

Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

Preferred

Experience leading scoped engineering projects or initiatives

Experience mentoring peers, providing thoughtful code reviews, or contributing to architectural discussions

Experience working in regulated industries, particularly healthcare
