10+ years expVCBO Architecture is seeking an experienced Architect to lead design and delivery efforts on impactful projects, particularly in the K–12 education sector. The role involves guiding teams, ensuring design quality, and contributing to firmwide initiatives while operating with a high level of autonomy.
Architecture & Planning
Responsibilities
Lead design, technical direction, and documentation for complex architectural projects, with an emphasis on K–12 work
Guide interdisciplinary teams and provide mentorship that strengthens skills, quality, and collaboration across the firm
Coordinate closely with clients, consultants, and internal teams to ensure alignment on design vision, goals, and deliverables
Oversee project quality, standards, and workflows across all phases—from concept through construction administration
Represent VCBO in client meetings, presentations, and stakeholder engagements, helping shape and communicate project vision
Support firmwide initiatives related to design excellence, technical standards, and best practices
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture (required)
10+ years of professional experience with demonstrated leadership across multiple project phases
Strong proficiency in Revit (required)
Excellent verbal, visual, and written communication skills, including comfort presenting to clients and stakeholders
Ability to mentor others, lead teams, and uphold design and technical standards
Self-directed, collaborative, and comfortable managing complex project demands with professionalism and autonomy
Preferred
Architectural licensure preferred but not required
Familiarity with additional software such as SketchUp, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, or BIM coordination tools is a plus
Experience in K–12 design strongly preferred, though open to varied backgrounds with demonstrated interest or aptitude
