Intern - Enteric Disease Epidemiology (Summer)
The State of South Dakota's Department of Health is focused on improving the health and well-being of South Dakotans. They are seeking an intern to assist with infectious disease surveillance and response activities, particularly for enteric diseases.

Responsibilities
Conducting disease investigations of enteric diseases (campylobacteriosis, cryptosporidiosis, and giardiasis)
Assist with outbreak response activities
Collaborate on an article for publication in the SD Public Health Bulletin on infectious disease trends
Creating materials to support surveillance efforts for infectious disease and increasing public awareness
Qualification
Required
Applicant must be a current part-time or full-time student (minimum of 6 credit hours) in upcoming semester or in the immediately preceding semester
Applicant should have completed two semesters in the areas of biology, microbiology, chemistry, or epidemiology by the start of the internship
Applicant should be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply
By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program
Preferred
Applicant should have familiarity with web-based applications
Knowledge of basic statistics
Ability to communicate medical and public health topics effectively and professionally to the general public
Preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior
Preference may be given to South Dakota residents
Preference may be given to students of South Dakota institutions
