Responsibilities
Provide expert legal counsel for structuring and negotiating private investment platforms, including direct responsibility for GP stakes and the establishment of rated feeder fund structures
Advise on and oversee the legal structuring and seeding of new Business Development Company (BDC) platforms, ensuring compliance with relevant US regulations and industry best practices
Collaborate closely with investment professionals, portfolio managers, and other business stakeholders to support portfolio construction, underwriting, and ongoing monitoring of investments
Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal partners (legal, risk, compliance, investments, senior management) and external constituencies (outside counsel and business partners)
Monitor developments in relevant legal and regulatory frameworks; ensure transactions and structures comply with legal requirements
Facilitate consensus-building among diverse stakeholder groups and lead negotiations through complex and ambiguous matters, ensuring efficient and pragmatic resolution of interparty issues
Develop and implement best practices for legal risk mitigation and transaction efficiency
Support and contribute to Liberty Mutual Investments’ partnership and platform strategy by ensuring alignment of legal frameworks with business goal
Qualification
Required
Significant relevant experience at leading law firm and/or corporate environments
JD and admission in good standing to a US jurisdiction
Ability to structure and negotiate investment platforms providing GP stakes
Possesses an understanding of debt funds and associated rated feeder funds
Experience with seeding new Business Development Company (BDC) platforms
Demonstrated ability to navigate complexity and drive consensus
Build and nurture relationships with internal and external stakeholders including but not limited to regulators and business partners
Significant background advising sophisticated investors on investments in private investments structures
Possesses a nuanced understanding of how to structure investments to achieve broader objectives and protect the interests of the parties involved
Self-starter with a bias for action and implementation
