Associate Director of Community Health Center Operations, Pharmacy
Boston Medical Center (BMC) is seeking an Associate Director of Community Health Center Operations to lead the strategy and operations of pharmacy partnerships with Community Health Centers. Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership to CHCs and drive service line growth through performance optimization and business development
Provide strategic direction for CHC pharmacy partnerships across contract, staffed, and owned models to ensure long-term sustainability and growth
Translate BMC’s pharmacy strategy into actionable plans tailored to CHC needs
Anticipate and respond to industry, regulatory, and market changes to position BMC and CHCs for success
Ensure effective execution of strategy and initiatives to meet CHC expectations by translating CHC pharmacy strategy into operational tactics without heavy senior oversight
Engage with internal teams to optimize performance integrated with support areas, including but not limited to; implementation team, pharmacy operations, patient call center or support staff, CHS specialty pharmacy, CHS mail order pharmacy
Understand market trends and environment, including partner changes, drug access, prescribing trends, and evolving clinic landscapes
Identifies new potential CHC clients to offer BMC services to grow CHC pharmacy performance
Build partnerships and manage relationships with CHCs leadership
Serve as the primary liaison with CHC C-suite leaders (CEO, COO, CFO, CMO) to share performance updates, align on strategic priorities, and co-develop new initiatives
Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with CHC partners to ensure high satisfaction and long-term collaboration
Assume financial accountability and partner with internal teams to support growth
Share responsibility for CHC partner P&L performance and ensure financial goals are met, including prescription capture, topline revenue growth, and operational efficiency
Partner with Finance and CHCs to analyze data, develop business cases, and establish sustainable contract terms
Provide operational oversight to all CHC partners in collaboration with local MOR/pharmacist in charge
Provide operational oversight for CHC pharmacy sites in collaboration with local MORs
Lead, mentor, and support teams through hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management, fostering a culture of accountability, service, and teamwork
Drive operational excellence through process standardization, optimization, and best practice sharing
Understanding of clinical service needs, translating those needs into program standards and addressing challenges and roadblocks by devising solutions and alternative approaches
Maintain a deep understanding of CHC environment, including clinic operations, 340B eligibility and other onsite support networks or programs
Coordination of clinical care programs aligned with CHC partner objectives
Ensure pharmacy operations and programs are aligned with CHC clinical objectives and patient care needs
Maintain compliance with federal and state pharmacy regulations, 340B requirements, payer contracts, and accreditation standards (URAC, etc.)
Must adhere to all of BMC’s RESPECT/AIDET behavioral standards
Qualification
Required
Pharmacist with PharmD or BS Pharm required
Requires licensure to practice pharmacy in the State of Massachusetts upon hire
At least 7 years relevant progressive leadership experience in outpatient/retail pharmacy operations required
Comprehensive understanding of all the procedures, systems, and equipment used by pharmacists and technicians in the pharmacy as well as a high level of proficiency in performing these duties and responsibilities
Previous oversight experience involving pharmacy related items in outpatient /ambulatory clinics
High level of analytical ability to evaluate current pharmacy services and procedures to improve them by gathering data from a wide variety of sources through an evaluative research process
Organizational and personnel management skills to function as a role model and to ensure the concerted approach to operations
High level of interpersonal skills to relate to CHC and pharmacy teams working cooperatively and collaboratively to resolve situations and problems, as well as effectively communicating and displaying leadership within and outside of the department
High level of proficiency with standard software used in healthcare office setting (e.g. MS Word, Excel, Access, web browser, etc.)
Experience with pharmacy and clinical databases systems (such as QS1, Centricity, Meditech, Cerner, EPIC, SCM etc.) are a plus
Must possess self-management skills and require little to no supervision
This person must be a self-starter, self-motivating, have a strong work ethic and must have the ability to identify issues or opportunities that require attention and change
Ability to problem solve issues when resources are stretched or scarce; ability to make alternative plans as needed
Must possess and exhibit process improvement skills and acumen
Preferred
MBA or other business degree preferred
EPIC and QS1 systems experience is an asset and preferred
