Program Associate I - Finance
Detroit Public Schools Community District is seeking a Program Associate I - Finance to support various schools and departments. The role involves analyzing and adjusting reported claims to determine the District’s liability and ensuring claims are resolved according to industry standards.
Education
Responsibilities
Apply a strong understanding of insurance concepts, claims adjusting and reporting, and the closure of claims in support of maintaining District properties
Process and report property and liability claims by assembling information to determine the District’s potential exposure
Examine claim forms, policies, and endorsements to determine compensability
Compile relevant information for each claim
Assign reserve values to claims, and monitor reserve accuracy
File insurance claims with agents, as applicable
Recommend claim settlements after determining compensability and exposure; recommend subrogation when appropriate, secure executive approval for offers to claimants; file settlements with regulatory agencies
Represent the Risk Management Department at internal claim’s roundtable; discuss open files; review settlement offerings and file closures
Correspond with claimants or their representative, when appropriate
Recommend litigation when appropriate; attend and present evidence at legal proceedings on disputed matters, as required
Collaborate regarding disposal of salvaged assets
Provide loss data for reporting that includes the IBNR, School Infrastructure Data, Council of Great City Schools, and KPI
Manage audits, endorsements, site visits as ordered by the insurance company
Review lease, contract language, and MOUs, for the purpose of identifying risk of loss and exposure
Prepare/Request Certificates of Insurance for special district events
Prepare student travel report for insurance audit
Maintain a quality assurance program to support DPSCD Risk Management objectives and the consistent delivery of quality claims service
Maintain professional and technical knowledge through continuing education
Maintain integrity, clarity and confidentiality in all communications, interactions, and all facets of work
Willingness to go beyond to contribute to the success of a dynamic team committed to a new future for Detroit education
Fulfill other duties as assigned by departmental leadership
Qualification
Required
Applicants must possess and provide evidence of a bachelor's degree in business administration, or in a business discipline, from an accredited college or university
Applicants must have a minimum of ten (5) years of professional experience with an emphasis on insurance, insurance adjusting, and operations
Demonstrated time management skills to meet deadlines, as well as flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
Effective interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple assignments and work with minimum supervision
Physical requirements will include extensive walking at claim sites
