Public Works - Fleet Mechanic I
Park County Government is seeking a Fleet Mechanic I to perform skilled mechanical and diagnostic work in the maintenance and repair of county vehicles and equipment. The role involves basic maintenance tasks, inspections, repairs, and providing emergency field service as needed.

Responsibilities
Perform basic maintenance work such as change oil and filters, grease and lube service, change, balance, and rotate tires, and change air, fuel, and hydraulic filters
Perform shop cleanup tasks such as sweeping, washing down, and putting tools and equipment in assigned locations when finished using them
Painting and placing of decals
Inspect and repair vehicles and equipment to comply with Public Works and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards and regulations
Document job time, vehicle hours and miles, parts used per job, parts needed, and any repairs accomplished. Provide this needed important information to proper personnel
Help provide field service in emergency situations
Repair, rebuild, replace and diagnose problems within a wide variety of Park County equipment such as heavy and light trucks, tractors, snowplow equipment, sanders and spreaders, specialty type equipment, and various small engine equipment and tools
Repair, rebuild or replace individual components with guidance for complex pieces of specialty equipment to include hydraulic pumps and motors, conveyor and transport systems, electrical and generation units
Operate most types of vehicles and equipment in order to troubleshoot, test, and/or confirm repairs needed or completed
Performs welding and fabrication work, which may include cutting metal, fabricating components, or soldering metal components
Perform all work and functions in a safe and conscientious manner
Provide quality and consistency in all endeavors
Participate in Emergency Support Functions
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Must pass background check
To achieve 50% or greater of pay a Class B CDL is required
Two years' experience as a mechanic in the automotive, truck and heavy equipment industry
Basic knowledge of the design and function of diesel, gas, hydraulic, hydrostatic, electrical, and mechanical type systems
Ability to read and understand manuals, sketches, schematics, specifications and other shop related directions
Ability to plan and estimate jobs within the scope of assigned duties and responsibilities
Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing
Ability to work independently and produce quality work
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with co-workers
Preform diagnostics through sight, smell and sound
Basic knowledge of welding (MIG and Stick) and use of Oxy Acetylene equipment
Manual dexterity including the ability to lift and carry 75 pounds
Ability to drive both light and heavy-duty trucks and equipment as well as use various equipment and tools
Preferred
Graduation from an accredited vocational school in mechanics field is preferred
Two years' experience as a mechanic in the automotive is desired or equivalent combination of education and experience
