Seasonal Parks and Properties Laborer
The City of Wasilla Public Works Department is hiring for the winter season! The Parks & Properties Laborer performs daily hands-on maintenance of parks, properties, and public facilities, focusing on snow removal and ensuring safe year-round access.

Responsibilities
Perform minor facility construction, improvement, repair and maintenance
Plant and maintain flowerbeds, hanging baskets, shrubs, trees, lawn and fields; operate manual digging tools, hand tools or power tools
Perform summer grounds maintenance, including mowing, weed trimming, irrigation, fertilization, leaf removal and turf care
Perform winter snow and ice control, including shoveling, snow blowing, sanding, salting, and plowing to ensure safe access to public buildings, parks and properties
Perform sanitation maintenance, including litter collection, restroom cleaning and area clean-up
Maintain facilities, signs, fences, park equipment, and other structures; report acts of vandalism and make repairs
Operate city-owned vehicles and equipment
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED equivalency
Valid State of Alaska Driver's License or ability to obtain one by the date of hire
Ability to perform minor facility construction, improvement, repair and maintenance
Ability to plant and maintain flowerbeds, hanging baskets, shrubs, trees, lawn and fields; operate manual digging tools, hand tools or power tools
Ability to perform summer grounds maintenance, including mowing, weed trimming, irrigation, fertilization, leaf removal and turf care
Ability to perform winter snow and ice control, including shoveling, snow blowing, sanding, salting, and plowing
Ability to perform sanitation maintenance, including litter collection, restroom cleaning and area clean-up
Ability to maintain facilities, signs, fences, park equipment, and other structures; report acts of vandalism and make repairs
Ability to operate city-owned vehicles and equipment
Ability to communicate clearly by voice on radio, cell phone as well as in person
Must be highly motivated, work well as a team member, follow instructions, and complete tasks independently under time pressure as needed
Preferred
Previous facility and grounds maintenance experience
Knowledge of annuals and perennials is helpful
Knowledge of planting, watering, deadheading, and seasonal care of flowers, shrubs, trees and turf is helpful
Benefits
The City of Wasilla has opted out of Social Security and instead contributes to the State of Alaska Supplemental Benefits System annuity plan (SBS). SBS is provided in lieu of Federal Social Security (deductions for Medicare will still be required). Participation in this program is mandatory. The current employee contribution is 6.13% of gross wages. Upon separation, employees can elect to remove funds for a fee.
