Responsibilities

Advise on all aspects of labor and employment law, including hiring practices, employee relations, performance management, workplace investigations, discipline, terminations, and wage and hour compliance
Partner closely with the Human Resources (HR) department to develop, implement, and maintain compliant and effective employment policies, procedures, and training programs
Provide proactive legal guidance to HR on organizational changes, workforce strategy, employee communications, and sensitive personnel matters
Draft and review various workplace policies and agreements
Manage and resolve labor and employment disputes, claims, and litigation, including coordinating with outside counsel
Work closely with the workers’ compensation claims team, safety team and outside insurers on personal injury matters
Advise on data privacy laws and regulations, including CCPA/CPRA, and other relevant state regulations
Assist with the development and review of internal policies, notices, and procedures related to data collection, use, and protection
Partner with IT and compliance teams to manage data breach response plans and risk assessments
Stay abreast of evolving privacy legislation and help guide compliance strategy
Provide legal support and guidance on sustainability-related disclosures, strategies, and initiatives
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement sustainability compliance frameworks and reporting standards, and to ensure compliance with various reporting regulations
Review and advise on sustainability communications, stakeholder reports, and sustainability goals to ensure legal accuracy and alignment with company values
Familiarity with EPR regulations, such as SB 54, and California GHG reporting obligations preferred
Provide legal support and guidance across cross functional company divisions and areas of responsibility
Monitor litigation trends, emerging regulations, and industry developments; translate learning into proactive risk-mitigation and process-improvement recommendations for senior leadership
Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by mentoring team members, sharing best practices, and championing innovative legal operations tools and approaches
Manage and resolve various disputes, claims, and litigation, notably directing and coordinating with outside counsel
Organize and able to synthesize case status summaries in a digestible format for management

Required

J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
3+ years of legal experience, with a strong focus on labor and employment law
Working knowledge in privacy/data protection and sustainability matters
Exceptional legal judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment
