They are looking for an experienced infrastructure and dev-ops engineer to build out the core hosting and deployment platform for their main application, focusing on migrating from Heroku to a self-hosted platform on AWS.

Responsibilities
Develop an understanding of the current application, its deployment mechanisms, and its scaling metrics
Take ownership of SRE responsibilities for the existing Heroku Application
Contribute to the AWS Infrastructure Stack that is already hosting our Data Infrastructure
Develop an understanding of both the physical and business logic boundaries of the current application
Stand up a new hosting platform for the application in AWS using the decided upon deployment and hosting platforms
Begin migrating components of the existing application from Heroku to the new platform
Take on Pager Duty shifts for the Infrastructure stack
Build out the appropriate monitoring and alerting
Continue iterating on the platform to improve SLAs with a focus on: Improving monitoring and alerting as new features are released, Improving scaling reaction times while keeping costs in check, Improved security, Developer experience and acceleration of release times
Stand up new infrastructure and deployments as needed for other teams, such as Security and deliverability teams
Stand up a parallel self-hosted Clickhouse deployment to reduce Cloud Costs
Stand up an ML Infrastructure for total lifecycle management
Qualification
Required
Experienced in Infrastructure, Site Reliability (SRE), DevOps, or Cloud Engineering
Experience provisioning, managing, and automating AWS infrastructure, including: EKS, EC2, ALBs, IAM, VPCs, S3, Route53, SecretsManager, KMS, and more
Building, managing, and deploying IaC as the foundation of an organization's infrastructure using Terraform (or other IaC)
Experience provisioning and managing cloud K8s clusters and using standard management tools such as Helm, Helmfile, and more
Writing IAM policies, and provisioning SSO authentication and proper access roles
Experience with CI/CD technologies, ideally with GitHub Actions, but also GitLab CI, Jenkins, or CircleCI
Building, provisioning, and managing VPNs and network access
Experience with observability, monitoring, and alerting tools such as DataDog, Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, PagerDuty, NewRelic, and others
Experience with architectures that consider Fault Tolerance, Availability, Scalability, and Disaster Recovery
Preferred
Experience managing, deploying, and monitoring queue-based job runner systems, such as the Ruby-based Sidekiq
Comfortable understanding and potentially writing some application code to power microservices
Experience with RESTful web applications
Experience with Ruby on Rails
Experience with Postgres and can write SQL and DDL
Experience with Columnar OLAP databases and can manage database migration tools, specifically Clickhouse
Experience self-hosting Clickhouse
Experience managing or provisioning Kafka Clusters, creating topics, connectors, and schemas
Familiarity with Event-Driven Architectures
Experience with Heroku
