2026-27 English Language Development (ELD) Teacher

The English Language Development (ELD) Teacher will be responsible for delivering inclusive, college-preparatory instruction to scholars while fostering a supportive classroom environment.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain a positive, achievement-oriented, supportive, and collaborative culture of high expectations that motivates and inspires scholars to learn at college-preparatory levels
Effectively execute assigned curriculum and just-in-time supports to reach every scholar, regardless of prior academic background, disability, or English language fluency
Engage in internalizing assigned curriculum, tied to specific grade level and content standards, in teacher teams and individually to prepare daily lesson plans, instructional materials, and exit tickets aligned to rigorous college-ready standards
Use exit tickets, unit tests, interim exams, and other assessment data to determine differentiated re-teaching needed to advance all scholars toward demonstrating mastery
Collaborate with peers to ensure that all scholars receive the appropriate support, including the accommodations they need to successfully access grade-level content
Provide all scholars opportunities aligned with the Alliance’s College-Ready Graduate Profile
Create a coherent and supportive classroom culture to support scholar engagement, learning, and well-being
Support Alliance’s aspiration to prepare all scholars for college, with 75% or more completing a four-year college degree
Seek opportunities, both individually and through school-based initiatives, to build strong and collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, families, scholars, and alumni

Required

A California teaching credential in the assigned subject area(s) and a valid English Learner Authorization are required
California Single Subject, Multiple Subject, or Education Specialist Credential (Clear or Preliminary) with a full English Learner Authorization code of 'ELA1' or 'CLAD' Emphasis or Bilingual Authorization code of 'BA**' or 'BCLAD' Emphasis
California Clear Crosscultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD) Certificate
California Single Subject Credential in World Language: English Language Development
Equivalent Out-of-State Credential with a full English Learner Authorization transferring to California
Bachelor's Degree: Applicants without a credential will be required to provide a copy of their transcript for evaluation to determine eligibility for an emergency teaching permit
Applicants without a current credential or a verifiable pathway toward obtaining a California teaching credential will not be considered
Hold the belief that all scholars, regardless of their economic or social demographics, deserve a quality education and can earn a four-year college degree
Desire to teach in systemically underserved communities in Los Angeles and be a part of Alliance's social justice mission by integrating anti-racist, pro-Black, student-centered instruction
Demonstrate an ability to develop a positive, achievement-oriented, supportive, and collaborative culture of high expectations that motivates and inspires scholars to learn at college-preparatory levels
Know how to use data, technology, and innovative teaching methods to monitor growth and scholar progress, drive classroom learning, and prepare all scholars to succeed in life after high school
Have strong academic content expertise, instructional and classroom management skills, and in-depth knowledge of effective evaluation and assessment techniques to drive scholar learning
Thrive in an environment of high expectations and collaboration
Hold a growth mindset and commit to continuously honing their teaching craft
Have strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills with both children and adults
