Director of Sales Engineering

The Director of Sales Engineering will lead a team of Sales Engineers in the Western U.S., driving technical sales excellence and strategic customer engagements while ensuring the team's readiness across Sophos' solutions.

Responsibilities
Lead and develop a team of 11 Sales Engineers supporting Midmarket opportunities across the West U.S. region
Set the technical sales engineering strategy for the region with a focus on scalability, consistency, and operational excellence
Partner with the Regional Sales Leader to drive joint accountability for technical success across new and existing opportunities
Ensure technical readiness across the entire team, including proficiency in Sophos endpoint, network, cloud, and MDR offerings
Actively participate in key customer engagements, serving as an executive technical resource for strategic deals, escalations, and competitive situations
Drive enablement programs to ensure your team remains current on emerging threats, Sophos technologies, competitive landscape, and industry trends
Manage performance, retention, and development through coaching, career pathing, and identifying future leadership potential
Champion automation, process improvement, and best practices across technical evaluations, demonstrations, and POCs
Collaborate with global Sales Engineering leadership to share and implement best practices across regions
Partner with Product Management and internal technical teams to provide customer feedback and influence product direction
Ensure customer satisfaction by resolving escalations, advocating for customer needs, and building strong long-term technical relationships
Recruit, onboard, and continually enable top talent for the Sales Engineering organization
Evangelize Sophos technologies externally through events, partner sessions, webinars, and industry engagements
Qualification
Required
5+ years of people leadership experience managing Sales Engineers or technical presales teams (preferably distributed/remote)
7+ years of technical sales engineering experience in cybersecurity, cloud, networking, or related fields
Strong understanding of: System and network architecture, Endpoint and server security, NGFW and secure network design, Cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP), EDR/XDR, threat hunting, and incident response concepts
Experience supporting Midmarket or Commercial sales teams in high-velocity environments
Proven ability to lead teams in competitive technical evaluations, customer demonstrations, and POCs
Experience developing scalable processes, documentation, and SE enablement programs
Track record of building, coaching, and retaining high-performance engineering teams
Excellent presentation, communication, and executive engagement skills
Comfortable operating cross-functionally with Sales, Product Management, Support, Labs, and Marketing
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Preferred
Professional certifications (Security+, CISSP, AWS/Azure/GCP certs) a plus
