UTILITIES TECHNICIAN I (STORMWATER)
NEOGOV is looking for a Utilities Technician I to join the City of Maitland's Public Works Department. The role involves performing technical field and office work related to stormwater inspections, maintenance, and environmental surveys to ensure compliance with stormwater management codes.

Responsibilities
Conducts inspections and communicates potential violations of State regulations and City code to the City Engineer
Participates in education programs for owners of lake and non-lakefront property covering the causes, prevention and effects of water pollution
Assists in lake surveys and herbicide spraying of city lakes, as directed
Assists in the lakes field operations, to include but not limited to, installation and maintenance of aeration and filter systems, lake bottom sampling, monitor lake contour and water depth, aquatic weed spraying and trash removal
Investigates and recommends resolution to supervisor on concerns by lake and canal property owners; and/or wetland property owners
Conducts cleaning, maintenance and repair of outfall storm drains, traps, inlets, catch basins, manholes, pipes and all other stormwater infrastructure; and assists in the construction inspection of these stormwater systems
Performs aquatic weed removal and re-vegetation of city lakes to detain pollution, improve attractiveness, and provide native wildlife habitat
Inspects stormwater treatment facilities. Assists with the inspection of private stormwater systems to ensure city standards for construction and maintenance are met
Assists in the investigation and record keeping for specific environmental problems
Operates and assists in the maintenance of the street sweeper
Maintains availability for “standby” assignment for a week at a time or other predetermined schedule, and availability for return to work under City’s “call back” procedures
Provides back up to other related positions
Maintains paperwork associated with all daily activities to provide documentation for NDPES reporting
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High School diploma with one (1) or more years of experience in the maintenance of lakes, canals, wetlands, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Possess a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) certification, Class B, or obtain the CDL certification within six (6) months of employment
Must also possess the National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-700 within 30 days of employment and the ICS-100 within 90 days of employment. There may be additional NIMS required, which will be scheduled by your Supervisor
Possess a Restricted Use Pesticide Application license in aquatics or obtain within six (6) months of employment
Possess a Stormwater A Certification from the Florida Wastewater and Pollution Control Association (FWPCOA) or a Florida Stormwater Association Level 1 Operator Certification or obtain one within twelve (12) months of employment
Possess a Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Stormwater, Erosion & Sedimentation Control Inspector Certification, or obtain within six (6) months of employment
Working knowledge of herbicides on freshwater application, including causes of water pollution, water testing, aquatic weeds and re-vegetation
Working knowledge of applicable laws and ordinances regarding environmental management of lakes and canals
Skills in the operation of the listed tools and equipment
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions; and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors and the public
Ability to recognize poisonous snakes, insects, plants, and other hazardous environments
Ability to perform work under adverse weather conditions
