Responsibilities

In partnership with the CEO, holds primary responsibility for the strategic and operational activities of the policy and program work
Collaborates with CEO, Vice Presidents and Directors to shape a strategy that uplifts Greenlining’s work in the most high-impact and strategic ways
Develops and implements strategies that align with the organization’s mission to promote economic equity and resilience for underserved communities
Leads the development of short- and long-term impact goals and sets priorities in collaboration with the executive team and Board of Directors
Provides thought leadership to advance local, state, and federal on policy initiatives, advocacy efforts, and programmatic priorities across policy areas
Maintains a deep expertise in all of Greenlining’s policy areas with an ability to build connections across distinct issue areas
Leads efforts to refine program design, implementation, and evaluation processes to maximize impact, making adjustments as needed based on feedback and outcomes
Ensures collaboration across functions and policy teams to develop high-quality, proactive and responsive programs, and policy strategy with corresponding organizational and financial plans
Identifies opportunities to innovate or expand programmatic efforts, pilot new initiatives, and scale successful ones
Oversees and monitors compliance with relevant federal, state and local regulations
Participates on the Executive Team as a key leader who strengthens organizational strategy, cross team collaboration, infrastructure, culture, and relationships
Personifies an executive presence, a dynamic professional style, and the ability to inspire confidence to all levels of the organization and with all constituencies
Supports knowledge management, internal learning, and succession planning
Establishes and implements the infrastructure needed to grow the division in all program areas
Embodies GLI’s values and standards for conduct and ethics at all times
Promotes GLI’s culture of inclusion and champions our mission
Ensures strong positive relationships are developed with other departments and stakeholders
Primarily directly supervises Senior Directors, Directors, and Associate Directors working in the Policy Division
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
Fosters engagement and organizational commitment of staff by effectively leading, providing direction, setting goals, and communicating information to empower staff for optimal outcomes
Proactively aligns individual work plans with team level goals and organizational aims
Uses rigorous methods and systems to keep projects on track and achieve team goals
Cultivates growth in all core competency areas including Communication, Collaboration, Strategic Innovation, Technical Expertise, Adaptability and Accountability
Encourages professional development by promoting a growth mindset, providing stretch opportunities and coaching staff on career progression strategies
Support and maintain a diverse and inclusive workplace culture to attract, retain, and motivate an exceptional, high-performing team
Oversee mentorship and supervision of Academy participants and provide support to team members working directly with Academy participants
Carries out supervisory responsibilities while adhering to Greenlining’s policies and applicable employment laws
Support and partner with the CEO and board members on all major fundraising initiatives
Oversees the Division’s budgets to ensure organizational and programmatic needs are met while operating within legal and budget parameters
Work in partnership with the Development team to secure funding necessary to meet the Policy Division’s budgetary needs
Oversee strategic planning and budgeting processes for the policy and program teams to align resources with priorities and ensure sustainability
Develop strong relationships with existing funders and cultivate relationships with new supporters
Maintain effective financial practices and stewardship of the organization’s resources
Support the implementation of annual fundraising plans and other revenue models to ensure long-term financial sustainability
Broadly and strategically promotes and positions the organization’s work to relevant stakeholders
Work in partnership with the Communications team to effectively tell the story of Greenlining's work and incorporate strategic communications into our advocacy
Builds strong ties with and helps galvanize The Greenlining Coalition - a diverse group of community-based organizations that have banded together around a common vision of social justice
Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with elected and government officials and other allied community groups and organizations
Represents the programs, policy positions, and point of view of the organization to agencies, community partners, funders, and the general public via writing, speaking, conferences and other engagements
Writes industry proposals and in-depth research papers with a strong and coherent policy and business analysis
Prepares periodic reports outlining the finances, operational successes or challenges, and recommendations for accelerating GLI’s impact

Required

7 Years of Executive Non-Profit Leadership Experience with strong and significant track record of success
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university required
Demonstrated commitment to Greenlining's mission, vision, values and goals and an understanding of the intersectionality in Greenlining's work, culture, and workplace
Demonstrated commitment and experience in advancing equity and inclusion for people of color
Working knowledge of the local, regional and national landscape, including key stakeholders, data points and trends for the work done by Greenlining
Ability to develop and facilitate outcomes-oriented meetings, retreat activities, and/or workshops
A consensus-builder with strong emotional intelligence to relate to, understand and lead a team
Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain people-centric engagement strategies
Courageous, strategic, collaborative and visionary leadership while being accountable, approachable, effective and inspiring
Ability to build and motivate strong, efficient teams that exhibit high levels of trust and accountability
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to confidently speak and represent the organization in local, regional and national forums
Ability and willingness to travel, as needed, to meetings and conferences throughout the state and nationally
Fiscal management and fundraising experience including experience cultivating relationships with funders and providing strategic input into grant proposal development
Ability to evaluate existing systems, and develop and implement improvements
Must be able to forge new relationships to build GLI's visibility, impact, and financial resources
This position is a hybrid role based out of Oakland, CA, where a minimum 2 days are required to be in person in the office

Preferred

Master's degree in a related field strongly preferred
