Systems Administrator III (On-Site)
University of Houston is seeking a Systems Administrator III who will function as an expert system administrator engaged in installing, configuring, and maintaining hardware and operating system software. The role involves mentoring technical staff and ensuring the security and integrity of the University infrastructure.

Responsibilities
Designs, installs, configures, and maintains operating system servers in support of business requirements
Performs software installations and upgrades to hardware and operating system software; maintains in accordance with established information technology policies and procedures
Participates in mentoring, training and development of technical staff
Develops and promotes standard operating procedures
Implements operating system enhancements that will improve the reliability and performance of the system
Ensures long-term requirements of systems operations and administration are included in the overall information systems planning of the organization
Ensures media management through internal methods and procedures and use of offsite storage and retrieval services
Resolves complex procedural, operational, and technical problems
Recommends and ensures the security of the infrastructure hardware and operating system software
Performs other job-related duties as required
Qualification
Required
Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline
Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed
Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience
5+years of experience with Red Hat Linux
Functional knowledge of TCP/IP and InfiniBand networking
Preferred
RHCSA or RHCE certification preferred
Experience with the administration of high-performance computing software, including Slurm, Warewulf, and Module
Experience with Red Hat Satellite Server
Knowledge of various scripting languages and tools such as Ansible, Bash, Python, Conda, Prometheus, Grafana
Ability to perform hardware diagnostics and parts replacement
Department is willing to accept experience in lieu of education
