Tech II, Instrument Ops

The Instrument Operations Technician will be responsible for ensuring safe and efficient operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and electrical systems within the plant.

Responsibilities
Understand and adhere to company safe work policies
Contribute to the improvement of the Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality programs
Apply the hazardous work permit (HWP) process, lockout-tagout (LOTO) and energy isolation procedures as required for company and contractor personnel
Follow management of change (MOC) procedures for all changes to process and operating procedures
Direct and monitor contractors
Lead and participate in operations, maintenance, and safety meetings
Participate in safety committee activities as required
Support plant inventory management efforts
Follow work instructions and annotate with feedback
Set up and safely operate all tools and equipment necessary to perform assigned work
Effectively prioritize and schedule all work activities
Perform and document process and product analyzers calibration checks
Perform intermediate troubleshooting of instrumentation and control valves
Calibrate, configure, and/or replace field instrumentation devices
Install, commission, and troubleshoot control valves
Perform intermediate troubleshooting of process control systems
Functionally test or troubleshoot instrument or electrical control loops through field devices to verify proper operation
Perform basic troubleshooting of electrical systems
Repair electrical equipment control circuits
Perform LOTO of electrical systems and confirm zero energy
Lead shutdowns, start-ups, derimes, and production state changes for plant(s) in area
Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)(SAP)
Troubleshoot process problems to identify equipment requiring maintenance
Perform water treatment analysis and associated tasks
Document activities and data in the plant electronic logbook and SAP system
Accept on-call duty and overtime as required
Maintain open line of communication with manager and other stakeholders
Support new employees and entry-level technicians through coaching and mentoring
Qualification
Required
Prior experience and advanced skills in ASU, CO2, or onsite process plant operations
Prior experience and intermediate skills in maintenance and troubleshooting in one or both of the following: process instrumentation and controls; electrical equipment

Math - Basic algebra, fractions/percentages, unit conversion
Personal computer proficiency
Strong interpersonal abilities to support team philosophy and strategy
Ability to work alone
High mechanical aptitude and ability to work with simple mechanic's hand tools
Intermediate knowledge of chemical manufacturing hazards
Familiarity with common process equipment and their functions
Understanding of basic electrical hazards and safety and skills in troubleshooting electrical systems, with support from subject matter experts
Ability to troubleshoot 4-20 mA transmitter and electro-pneumatic control loops
Ability to interpret engineering drawings including P&IDs and PFDs
Able to navigate a document management system to find relevant work instructions, forms, and supporting documentation
Ability to complete intermediate preventive maintenance tasks according to best practices
Capable of operating a forklift, and/or overhead crane, and/or man lift
Ability to interpret electrical drawings including single-line diagrams
Understanding of trip and interlock logic protecting people and equipment
Certified to ISA Level 2 to qualify for instrumentation skills requirement
Certificate in a technical discipline, two-year related degree or recent military training in a technical field will be considered in lieu of ISA Level 2 certification
The job requirement is to obtain your ISA Level 2 certification within two years of hire date
High school diploma
Five (5) years of relevant experience in a related process plant operations, maintenance, or reliability activity
Physically able to perform all duties required which may involve among other things; bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing ladders, and lifting and carrying loads of up to 50 lbs
Ability to climb to heights 200 ft above grade and work effectively
Reside within a reasonable distance of the plant
Valid driver's license
Capable of distinguishing different colors
