Associate Underwriter - Brainery
Holmes Murphy is seeking an Associate Underwriter for their 2026 Brainery Program in West Des Moines, IA. The program is designed for early-career talent to learn the fundamentals of the insurance industry while contributing to essential underwriting tasks.

Responsibilities
Assist with account setup and maintenance in underwriting systems, ensuring accurate data entry and document tracking
Support underwriting decisions by reviewing client operations, analyzing risk profiles, and conducting industry research
Prepare reporting deliverables such as bordereaux (BDX) reports, premium summaries, and underwriting analytics
Contribute to process improvement initiatives, including technology-driven solutions like AI and automation
Review endorsement transactions, cancellations, and non-renewals for compliance with guidelines
Provide clear, timely, and professional communication to agency personnel
Complete special projects and additional duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
College degree required
Active Property & Casualty license or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret underwriting guidelines
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
Preferred
2–4 years in insurance preferred (for Associate Underwriter track)
Familiarity with insurance systems a plus
