Spirit AeroSystems designs and builds aerostructures for both commercial and defense customers. They are seeking an Advanced Product Development and Research Engineer to design and implement technologies related to Non-Destructive Inspection in an industrial manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

Candidate should have the capability to design, develop, verify and implement experimental technologies and processes related to Non-Destructive Inspection and Evaluation (NDI or NDE) in an industrial manufacturing environment
Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop new and alternative NDI/NDE solutions for new & existing aerospace products
Define and perform research programs to mature concepts, technologies and processes
Perform trade studies for design and manufacturing alternatives
Defines engineering requirements and compliance approaches up front for design for manufacturing and/or automation
Work in concert with key functions to align and advance research plans. Build positive relationships with internal support disciplines, customers and suppliers
Progress concept through initial configuration, prototyping, risk reduction and mature technology readiness
Create plans and evaluations for future work packages, i.e. managing projects from start to finish
Define necessary resources and development plans

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
The typical qualifications of a non-destructive evaluation (NDE) engineer would be an accredited engineering degree in electrical, mechanical, aerospace, physics, and/or non-destructive evaluation
Ability to manage with influence
Must be a self-starter and able to perform duties with minimum supervision
Experience building interpersonal professional relationships
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Security Clearance

Preferred

Familiarity/experience with analytical tools such as Matlab, Python 3 and/or Machine Learning algorithms or techniques
Experience in NDE disciplines, preferably ultrasonic testing
Experience utilizing various Microsoft Office Suite applications, such as Office 365 and Microsoft Project, Power Point, Excel, Word, Teams and Visio
Experience with aerospace structural manufacturing
Experience in cross-functional project management
Experience with Continuous Improvement/ Lean/ Industry 4.0/ World Class Manufacturing/ Future Factory/ Production System
Knowledge of engineering, manufacturing and supply chain
Knowledge of operational processes, flow and procedures
Research experience, from topic conception to conclusion
DoD Security Clearance
