SUPERVISORY FIRE PROTECTION INSPECTOR

The Department of the Air Force is seeking a Supervisory Fire Protection Inspector to serve as the Assistant Chief for Fire Prevention at Grissom AFB. The role involves planning, directing, and coordinating fire prevention activities, including a comprehensive inspection program to eliminate hazards in a high fire expectancy area.

Responsibilities

As the Assistant Chief of Technical Services, participates in the administration and planning of a comprehensive fire prevention program at the installation
Plans, administers, and supervises the fire prevention education program. Coordinates public relations activities and uses the news media to promote fire safety
Reviews construction and modification plans, confers with engineers, and provides technical/functional assistance on fire prevention and building design criteria
Performs supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management

Required

U.S. Citizenship Required
Males must be registered for Selective Service
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
Pre-employment physical is required for this position
At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-08 for Current and Prior Federal Employees
At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09 for External Applicants
Knowledge of accepted fire investigation processes/procedures
Knowledge of fire prevention, control, and suppression engineering methods, principles, concepts, techniques
Knowledge of safety and fire safety principles, practices, techniques, and procedures
Knowledge of recognized standards covering fire protection and prevention techniques and procedures
Knowledge of agency and installation manuals, rules, and regulations
Knowledge of federal, state, and local fire protection/prevention ordinances and building codes
Knowledge of the theory of fire propagation and progression
Ability to interpret facts, analyze, evaluate, and make sound decisions
Ability to plan, organize, and direct functions and to mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Certification requirements for this position are: Fire Inspector III (includes Fire Inspector I, II), Fire Instructor II (includes Fire Instructor I), and HAZMAT Awareness
If utilized to fill in for the Assistant Chief for Operations position, Fire Officer III, Hazmat Incident Commander (includes Hazmat Awareness and Hazmat Operations), Airport Firefighter (includes Firefighter I and II) certifications are also required
