Responsibilities
Founding the Office: collaborate with legal and claims to establish and operationalize the new Texas staff counsel office, including developing processes, selecting and implementing technology, and aligning office objectives with the broader company strategy
Independent Caseload Management: Handle all phases of litigation for assigned cases, from initial investigation to trial and post-trial activities
Process Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for processes automation, workflow enhancements and efficient digital case management consistent with Next’s digital-first approach
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
Active member in good standing of the State Bar of Texas
Minimum 5-9 years of proven trial attorney experience preferably within Insurance defense litigation or a related field
Demonstrated ability to manage a significant case load independently and effectively in a fast-paced high-volume environment
Strong knowledge of Texas law and civil procedure, particularly as it relates to personal injury, general liability and commercial auto cases
Exceptional legal research, writing, negotiation and analytical skills
Proficiency in legal case management software, e-discovery tools and remote collaboration technologies
Strong business acumen and an 'ownership mentality,' with the ability to capitalize on advancing technology and efficiency
Excellent communication skills and a commitment to providing 'phenomenal service' to internal and external clients
