Documentation Specialist, Technical Writer

They are seeking a Technical Writer to support the development and management of technical documentation for the DISA J6 IT Services Program, ensuring compliance with DoD standards and facilitating knowledge management and process improvement.

Responsibilities

Develop, edit, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), user guides, training materials, and technical documentation
Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and program managers to gather and validate content
Ensure documentation aligns with DoD formatting, accessibility (Section 508), and security classification guidelines
Maintain version control and document repositories (e.g., SharePoint, ServiceNow Knowledge Base)
Support the creation of deliverables such as reports, briefings, and status updates
Assist in the preparation of documentation for audits, inspections, and compliance reviews
Track and update documentation in response to changes in systems, processes, or policies
Provide support for knowledge management initiatives, including tagging and indexing content for searchability
Respond to documentation requests from internal teams and government stakeholders

Required

Active DoD Secret clearance
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Information Technology, or a related field
2–5 years of experience in technical writing, documentation, or knowledge management in a DoD or IT environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Adobe Acrobat, and SharePoint
Strong attention to detail and ability to translate technical information into clear, user-friendly content
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred

TS/SCI preferred
Familiarity with ITIL, PMBOK, or CMMI frameworks
ITIL Foundation or CompTIA certifications (preferred but not required)
