ACTIVE DUTY AND UNIT RECREATION ASSISTANT
Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) is looking for the best and brightest to join their team. This position is responsible for assisting in the coordination and execution of a comprehensive base-wide programs focusing on quality-of-life advocacy, recreation, and community involvement targeting active duty service members.

Responsibilities
Assisting in the coordination and execution of a comprehensive base-wide programs focusing on quality-of-life advocacy, recreation and community involvement/volunteerism, targeting active duty service members aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton
Developing, scheduling, organizing, publicizing, directing, and evaluating both recurring and non-recurring recreational and volunteer activities
Executing events which will involve frequent travel, supervising large groups of people, and working frequent nights, weekends, and holidays
Driving large groups of people, visiting amusement parks, cooking, and leading groups while camping, hiking, visiting local points of interest, and other outdoor recreational focused events
Enforcing established rules and regulations in supervising participants in these activities
Creating a monthly calendar of events and newsletter
Building and maintaining social media presence by developing and scheduling monthly posts for all aspects the Active Duty and Unit Recreation Department across all digital channels
Coordinating trip sign up and cash collecting, maintaining, and reporting on government vehicles
Coordinating monthly meeting agendas, writing meeting minutes and letters of appreciation
Managing volunteers sign up, attendance and performance at events
Preparing equipment, rosters, vehicles, and information packets for all trips, and making trip reminder phone calls and text messages
Leading programmed recreational trips and activities both assisted and unassisted
Maintaining the active duty recreation websites by providing timely information to the marketing department
Evaluating recreational needs on a continuing basis by soliciting feedback from patrons through surveys, personal contacts with individuals and/or groups, data collection and analysis to determine customer interest and improve the quality of service provided
Consistently providing World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy
Assisting customers and communicating appropriately
Acknowledging customers with a positive attitude while providing respectful interactions
Asking questions to determine, verify and solve problems
Checking for patron satisfaction on the quality of services
Taking action to solve problems quickly
Alerting supervisor, or proper point of contact to assist when problems arise
Qualification
Required
Three years of professional recreational work experience developing, scheduling, organizing, publicizing, and directing recreational activities, programs and events such as hiking, camping, surfing, etc
Must have the ability to supervise large groups of people unassisted
Must have the ability to coordinate a large volunteer program with command, community, and civic leaders
Incumbent will be required to have or obtain within 1 year certifications in Wilderness First Responder, Rage Safety Officer, Archery Level 1, First Aid, CPR/AED Instructor, Serve Safe® Food Safety, and Certified Program Planner or Certified Parks and Recreation Professional Certification
Must have or obtain First Aid, CPR/AED certification within first 3 months of hire date
Must maintain all certifications while in position
Must have a minimum of two years of experience in a variety of clerical duties such as typing, filing, record keeping, etc
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook (email), Windows, and navigating the web
Must be proficient in the use of various social media platforms
Must have excellent oral and written communications skills
Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to successfully plan, organize and execute events
Applicants must have the ability to maintain effective working relationships with other personnel, both inside and outside the organization
Must be able to work with little supervision
Must have knowledge of Marine Corps and MCCS systems
Must possess a valid driver's license with no driving restrictions
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management or related field highly desirable and can replace 1 year of work experience
