Responsibilities

As a Backend Engineer, you will collaborate with a team of talented developers to design, enhance, and optimize backend systems that support:
Real-time sports data delivery
Personalized user experiences
High-volume APIs powering mobile applications
AI-driven capabilities and fan interaction features
You will work on migrating legacy Data APIs that are being deprecated to new versions provided by the Data team
Ensuring compatibility between old and new APIs
Coordinating with the Data team for missing or mismatched data
Ensuring mobile clients remain unaffected by underlying changes
Ability to migrate 1–2 components/APIs per week depending on complexity
Delivering stable, high-quality features to production
Meeting migration milestones, deadlines, and expectations
Success is measured by:
Meeting deadlines and scope objectives
Stability and performance of migrated APIs
Quality of production releases

Required

5+ years Java or Kotlin development experience
5+ years server-side API development on Linux with scalable, high-performance systems
Strong foundations in OOP, design patterns, algorithms, data structures
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure
Ability to write clean, maintainable, well-documented code
8+ years total software development experience
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
Highly organized, proactive, and self-driven

Preferred

Passion for sports or fantasy sports
Experience building GraphQL servers
Expertise with highly available distributed systems
Experience with AWS services (S3, DynamoDB, SQS, API Gateway)
Experience using AI tools for coding and debugging
