Assistant City Manager For Community Development & Planning
The American Planning Association Massachusetts Chapter is representing the City of Watertown, which is seeking an Assistant City Manager for Community Development & Planning. The role involves leading the Department, managing staff, and developing community processes to create sustainable neighborhoods.
Non-profit Organization Management
Responsibilities
Lead the Department through many exciting and challenging upcoming projects
Report to the City Manager and serve as a member of the Manager’s leadership team
Serve as the direct manager for the division heads and team leaders
Develop community processes and present complex ideas to a public audience
Qualification
Required
Master's degree in urban planning or related field
a minimum of 10 years of increasingly responsible experience in planning and managing staff, finances, and consultants
any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job
a deep understanding of the tools and designs to create and sustain walkable neighborhoods and a thriving downtown
excellent management skills
exceptional skills working with the public, developing community processes, and presenting complex ideas to a public audience
Experience working with public/private partnerships for downtown redevelopment is a plus
Preferred
American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) preferred
