Blood Bank Lab Manager (FT, Days) - Einstein Philadelphia

Responsibilities

Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson
Attends and represents the Laboratory and acts as a liaison for Jefferson at Committee meetings, Nursing/Laboratory meetings, etc., as requested and as deemed necessary by the Lab Administrative Director
Consults with Administrative and Medical Directors at the Northern region to plan short-range and long-range priorities, goals and objectives based on the mission and plan for scope of Laboratory services throughout the North region
Researches and investigates reagent systems, new methods and instrumentation with Medical Directors, Administrative Director, and makes appropriate recommendations regarding use of methods and instruments as evidenced by compliance with regulatory standards and cost savings
Thoroughly investigates problems and incident reports with medical staff, personnel, and/or vendors and initiates corrective action. Reports findings and recommendations to Administrative Director and/or Medical Directors promptly
Responsible for developing, communicating, implementing, and revising policies and procedures for Transfusion Medicine to provide guidelines for operations including protocols, performance criteria, and integration of services. Ensures staff compliance with all policies and procedures, demonstrated by a complete and current Policy and Procedure Manual, minutes, and other records
Manages and assesses systems and services to ensure appropriateness and integration and coordination with other areas
May initiate and recommend disciplinary actions for employees in area of oversight in compliance with Jefferson Human Resource policies
Plans for and recommends space, staffing, orientation, competency, quality assurance, safety, and training and equipment needed by the department to meet patient needs and/or provide other service demonstrated by budget, goals and objectives, reports, and other departmental records. Reports plans to the appropriate Director
Develops accurate reports and statistics and completes special projects in a timely manner

CLIA complianceTransfusion MedicineLaboratory managementASCP certificationLeadership skills

Required

Satisfies education experience requirement defined by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA)
B.S. in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution
At least 5 years of laboratory experience within areas of responsibility required
Previous supervisory experience or leadership role required

Preferred

ASCP or equivalent certification in discipline of responsibility preferred
