Town-Wide Deputy Director of Facilities- Project Management

The Weston Conservation Department is seeking a Town-Wide Deputy Director of Facilities specializing in Project Management. This role involves assisting the Director of Facilities in overseeing construction projects, coordinating maintenance plans, and ensuring the effective management of municipal and school facilities.

Responsibilities

Works as a team member with the Director and Deputy Director of Operations in developing long-range Capital and maintenance plans, establishing priorities for facilities maintenance, repairs and improvements
Develops and maintains an ongoing comprehensive five-year and longer-term capital improvement plans for municipal and school buildings
Works with the Director of Facilities to oversee major construction and renovation projects for municipal and school buildings and other construction projects; assists with the selection of construction contractors and architects; monitors progress for adherence to project timelines and budgets
Works on all aspects of project management, from project inception at the feasibility study phase through design and construction
Tasked with delivering the highest quality construction at competitive prices, while considering life-cycle costs and sustainability
Works with the Facilities Director and various, Town departments, standing and ad hoc committees in the planning of special Town projects
Coordinates efforts of various stakeholders by ensuring all parties are informed and all interests are considered
Implements such plans and upon approval, assesses their effectiveness, and recommends modifications as required
Assists the Director of Facilities in overseeing the repair, maintenance, renovation and replacement of buildings, grounds and equipment; responsible for the work request and work order system; prepares specifications for work to be done under contract; inspects construction, repair and renovation of work under contract; develops and implements a preventative maintenance program for buildings
Assists and works with the Deputy Director of Operations in planning, organizing, directing staff, and coordinating the activities of the School Buildings and Grounds Department and the Municipal Facilities Department, including all aspects of building and facility maintenance and management for all Town buildings, and grounds maintenance for School facilities
Assists the Director and Deputy Director of Operations to develop and implement a computer tracking system to prioritize maintenance projects; monitors progress; performs cost accounting on project work; and generates detailed written reports
Oversees the Town’s Green Communities status which may include writing and managing grants and generating reports and ensuring all facilities and projects are built and maintained under Green Communities and/or LEED standards when appropriate
Prepares specifications for various maintenance functions and coordinates the activities of private contractors
Assists in establishing Town-wide contracts for various maintenance services and functions ensuring coordination and cost savings
Meets with Director of Facilities, Deputy Director of Operations, and other administrators and department managers when necessary to provide input for Town-wide plans, programs and the coordination of services
Serves as an information resource for the Facilities Department to department heads attempting facility upgrades
Directly and indirectly assist in supervising 21-50 employees in the performance of maintenance and new capital projects within the town
Responsible for overseeing the work of contractors conducting construction projects, as well as contractors working on facilities projects, or providing facility-related services

Required

Bachelor's degree
seven to ten (7-10) years of public sector experience in a supervisory role, or any equivalent combination of education and experience
Construction supervisor's license
Must Massachusetts Certified Public Purchasing Official (MCPPO) certificate, of successfully obtain certification within 6 months of hire
Valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator's license and insured personal vehicle
Must be CORI certified/Fingerprint requirement

Preferred

Experience in one or more trades (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.)
Masters Degree in a related field with a Massachusetts state license as a Professional Engineer desirable
LEED and/or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) credentials preferred
