Physical Security Specialist (Non-Uniformed)

Responsibilities
Evaluates risk and develops procedures and physical security measures designed to safeguard personnel, property, and operations from unauthorized access, espionage, terrorism, sabotage, damage and theft
Ensures security requirements and appropriate safeguards, cameras, and panic and intrusion alarms are implemented
Monitors and evaluating existing and planned security projects to ensure timely and quality service conforms to statutory, contractual, and technical requirements
Collects information and preparing reports on the facility's compliance with VA operations and regulations
Conducts system audits and evaluates reports of alleged security violations
Establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with other staff offices
Meets and coordinates with key customers and officials to assess customer satisfaction, explain organization policy and procedure, and resolve problems that arise
Participates on special projects and initiatives, and performing special ad hoc assignments
Attends security meetings to gather and share new/changed security program information with security personnel
Develops documents, spreadsheets, graphs, reports and presentations using various automated systems and software packages
Ensures physical security surveys are followed up promptly
Performs related duties as required

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period or 2-year trial period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-7 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization
Applicants must possess excellent communication skills
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree, or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, in a field related to Criminal Investigation
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education (in excess of the first year or 18 semester hours) and specialized experience to meet total experience requirements

The work requires full use of extremities, normal hearing, and vision to conduct on-site security surveys, inspections, and assessments
Applicants must possess a valid, unrestricted State driver's license, have a safe driving record, and demonstrate that he or she is medically qualified to operate the appropriate motor vehicle safely
