Director of Marketing and communications

The Marcy Lab School is an innovative alternative to college, designed for young adults seeking an accelerated, rigorous, career-focused, and financially accessible path into the tech industry. The Director of Marketing & Communications will lead all aspects of brand, marketing, and communications strategy, focusing on elevating the organization's public presence and driving recruitment, partnership, and fundraising efforts.

Responsibilities

Own the organization-wide marketing strategy, developing annual plans, setting KPIs goals, and launching marketing campaigns designed to drive brand awareness and increase engagement with our core audiences: prospective students, donors, and employer partners
Manage and evolve Marcy’s marketing infrastructure, including content calendars, analytics tools, and vendor relationships, when applicable
Translate organizational priorities and new initiatives into cohesive, campaign-driven communication moments
Oversee creative direction and storytelling across all channels (social, website, video, email) in collaboration with internal staff, contractors, and external partners
Maintain editorial and brand consistency across the website; manage content updates, SEO, and CMS publishing
Lead the strategy, planning, and execution of Marcy’s externally facing events (e.g., Graduation, Capstone Fair, Gala) to strengthen brand visibility and relationships with donors, partners, and the community
Develop event concepts and post-event storytelling assets; partner cross-functionally for logistics, vendor management, and day-of support
Lead event communications, including but not limited to invitations, RSVP capture, digital and print collateral, to ensure a cohesive brand experience
Serve as on-site creative producer for key moments (e.g., Graduation, Capstone Fair, Gala), ensuring Marcy’s visual identity is expressed seamlessly across live events and activations
Lead Marcy’s brand strategy and ensure consistent, compelling storytelling across all channels and audiences
Oversee visual identity, messaging, and tone across materials, ensuring alignment with organizational values
Partner with leadership to position Marcy as a national thought leader in equitable pathways to tech and the 'future of work.'
Conduct periodic brand audits and refreshes (visual + narrative) to ensure resonance with audiences and alignment with evolving program offerings
Manage a small but mighty external creative team, currently including a Social Media Manager, Design/Video Partners, Graphic Designer, and Web Designer, while identifying opportunities to expand, strengthen, or refresh vendor relationships as the organization’s needs evolve
Collaborate closely with leaders in Recruitment & Admissions, Development, Partnerships, and Fellowship teams to align messaging, campaigns, and priorities
Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, and clarity, ensuring all staff feel equipped and inspired to be brand ambassadors
Serve as organizational spokesperson for high-visibility moments and press opportunities
Cultivate relationships with journalists, influencers, and ecosystem partners to amplify Marcy’s reach
Identify and pitch newsworthy stories, thought pieces, and alumni success profiles that reinforce Marcy’s leadership and mission

Required

Experience leading multichannel marketing for a mission-oriented organization or social enterprise
Proven success in developing and implementing multi-channel marketing campaigns that drive measurable growth
Strong brand management and storytelling expertise; ability to translate complex ideas into compelling narratives
Experience overseeing digital channels (social, web, email) and content management tools like Airtable, Google Analytics, and CMSs
Experience leading high-visibility events — from concept to execution — that advance brand storytelling, community engagement, or fundraising goals
Familiarity with managing creative agencies, freelancers, and budgets
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a sharp design sensibility
Collaborative leadership style and the ability to influence across teams
A personal commitment to equity and inclusion in storytelling, representation, and impact

Preferred

Prior experience in marketing, communications, or brand leadership (nonprofit, social impact, or education experience strongly preferred)
Bonus: Experience in experiential marketing, brand activations, or event design/production
