Student Employee - New Student Orientation Leader

Responsibilities
Be the First Friendly Face of UCM
Welcome incoming students and their families with genuine Mule pride
Serve as their main point of contact throughout Orientation—answering questions, offering guidance, and making sure everyone feels supported and included
Share your own UCM experience to help new students picture themselves thriving here
Lead 'Mule Tracks' Experiences
Mule Tracks are small-group activities designed to help students connect based on areas of interest and explore campus life in a fun, safe, supportive environment
Facilitate and guide your assigned Mule Track group through hands-on experiences tied to their interests
Build community among students by encouraging participation, conversation, and shared discovery
Ensure every student feels seen, valued, and empowered as they begin their journey at UCM
Support the High School-to-College Transition
Help students shift into the academic, social, and personal expectations of college life
Offer tips, resources, and real talk about what it means to be a successful Mule
Encourage involvement, engagement, and confidence as they prepare to start classes
Assist with check-in, crowd flow, session transitions, and wrap-up activities
Provide campus directions, lead walking groups, and maintain a positive, energetic presence
Work closely with New Student Programs and partner offices to deliver a polished, welcoming experience
Represent UCM With Excellence
Model professionalism, inclusivity, and the values of the UCM community
Communicate clearly and respectfully with students, families, faculty, and staff
Uphold all university policies and serve as a trusted ambassador for the campus
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Computer Skills, Word-Processing, Spreadsheet, Presentation
Customer Service Experience
Attention to detail
Communication skills, including oral, written, and/or nonverbal
Human Relations/Interpersonal skills, must be competent with connecting with campus visitors
Leadership skills: organization/meeting facilitation/project leadership
Physical abilities: mobility/strength/dexterity/balance/coordination/endurance
Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines
Maintain confidentiality
Excessive standing and/or walking
Exposure to extreme temperatures
Exposure to loud noises
Lifting (weight) - 40 lbs
