Software Engineering Manager (Corporate Payments)
WEX is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager in the Corporate Payments Engineering organization to lead an engineering team for the EnCompass platform applications. The role involves developing a long-term vision and strategy, fostering a culture of innovation, and managing high-performance engineering teams to meet customer requirements effectively.

Responsibilities
Develop, drive and execute a long-term vision and strategy for the Corporate Payments cross-cutting and core services
Collaboratively define and implement a comprehensive architectural roadmap for the EnCompass platform, aligning with business objectives, industry best practices, and other Corporate Payments teams
Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, empowerment, and continuous learning within the engineering teams
Continuously challenge the status quo and implement mechanisms to reduce time-to-market using efficient engineering methods
Collaborate with other Corporate Payments engineering teams to reuse development practices and components to reduce duplication
Craft, lead, manage, and grow high-performance engineering teams. Hire, coach, promote, and retain high performers to achieve WEX goals
Work closely with product and commercial partners to drive, prioritize, and work backwards from the customer requirements and exceed expected outcomes
Drive effective monthly, weekly, and quarterly mechanisms to plan, execute, and audit workstreams
Establish a robust and clear engineering roadmap to maintain clarity and motivation for the engineering team. Maintain career growth plans and provide monthly and quarterly feedback for individuals’ continual progress
Qualification
Required
Great experience in software engineering and engineering management experience
Experience writing high-quality automation, including well-formed unit, component, and integration tests and an in-depth understanding of the test pyramid
Strong understanding of security and compliance requirements in cloud and data environments
Deep Expertise in Back-End Development: Proven track record with .NET Framework (Core/Standard) and its modern iterations. Experience with C# is essential
Cloud Engineering Mastery: Expert-level experience designing, deploying, and managing production services on either AWS (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, EKS) or Azure (e.g., App Service, Azure Functions, AKS)
API Design & Integration: Extensive experience designing and building RESTful APIs, utilizing standards like OpenAPI/Swagger, and managing complex integrations via webhooks and event-driven architectures (Kafka, SQS, Azure Service Bus, etc.)
Database Fluency: Strong practical experience with both relational (SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., DynamoDB, MongoDB, or Cosmos DB)
DevOps Mindset: Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or CloudFormation)
Experience building applications in the finance and payments space (e.g., credit card processing, corporate payments, accounts receivables/payables)
Excellent leadership, team-building, and dynamic decision-making skills
Ability to deal with ambiguity and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred
Experience building applications in the finance space, such as credit card products, accounts receivables/payables, etc
Experience in complex architectures
Experience working with geographically distributed teams, and ability to craft self-managing distributed teams
