Specialist, Tool Design Engineer

The Tool Design Engineer will be responsible for developing manufacturing strategies and designing tooling for rocket propulsion products while collaborating with engineering teams to ensure successful product releases.
Responsibilities
Develop manufacturing strategies for specific products and processes
Actively participates with engineering project teams in order to coordinate the release of new products
Design manufacturing tooling for the production of solid fuel rocket motors and warheads
Develop jigs, fixtures, lifting devices, and semi-automated equipment to cast and assemble the final product
Design major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations
Utilizes CAD equipment to develop basic data and make preliminary layouts, sketches and notes necessary to present design proposals
Investigates and makes decisions regarding pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, contractual specification requirements and cost
Communicates with contacts inside and outside of own department to explain and interpret operational processes, practices, and procedures
Recommends enhancements to systems and processes
Works to achieve operational targets for specific programs and projects with moderate impact on departmental results
Design mechanical equipment using PTC Creo and Windchill
Interface with production, program management and safety to develop requirements and tooling needs
Define existing equipment problems, design repairs and modifications
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree and minimum 4 years of prior design engineering experience
Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior design engineering experience
In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior design engineering experience
3 years of experience in the design of tooling to support manufacturing
2 years of experience using a solid modeling program such as Unigraphics NX, Pro-Engineer, AutoCAD Inventor, Catia, CREO or Solid Works
Ability to obtain a US Secret security clearance
Preferred
Experience working in the defense industry is a plus
Knowledge of air controls
