Payroll & Benefits Specialist
Bald Head Island Club is a prestigious private club located in Bald Head Island, NC, and they are seeking a Payroll & Benefits Specialist to enhance their financial operations. Responsibilities
Own full-cycle payroll: weekly for hourly staff, biweekly for salary staff
Maintain deductions, garnishments, benefits premiums & adjustments
Process and track bonuses (annual, performance, holiday, revenue-based, etc.)
Analyze weekly payroll data, highlight discrepancies, correct errors
Track overtime, labor trends, and payroll-to-revenue performance
Train managers on payroll procedures and uphold system-wide accuracy
Reconcile job codes, cost centers, and GL allocations
Process commissions for trainers, pros, and event staff
Ensure accuracy of service charge distributions
Maintain compliant payroll records and support budget development
Own benefits billing — audit, reconcile, and correct accurately
Liaise with vendors to resolve billing variances and obtain credits
Track PTO usage and accrual accuracy
Support annual benefits RFP process (Health, Dental, Vision, Life, 401k, etc.)
Conduct routine audits across payroll and benefits systems
Ensure deductions always match enrollments
Coordinate daily ferry reservations for all Club employees
Optimize transportation usage, coding, ticket purchasing & reporting
Communicate scheduling changes, weather impacts & operational needs
Track travel data, no-shows, and monthly reporting
Maintain parking pass systems, RFID cards & QR code updates
Assist new hires with onboarding and transportation setup
Track all employee perks including meals, parking expenses, stipends, wellness, and more
Maintain accurate logs for awards, referrals, stipends, and reimbursements
Ensure perk spending aligns with department budgets
Prepare dashboards, charts & finance-friendly reporting
Attend department meetings & share insights on labor, benefits, and transportation
Advise on policy updates, compliance, and best practices
Support the HR Director, Controller, and CEO on special projects
Serve as a friendly, knowledgeable resource for employee questions
Qualification
Required
A 4-year degree
Experience in accounting, finance, benefits, or payroll
HRIS/payroll system proficiency (Paylocity experience a plus)
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
Discretion, confidentiality, and outstanding organizational habits
A positive attitude and service-oriented mindset
Preferred
Experience in hospitality, private clubs, or multi-unit operations
