Campus Electrician

NEOGOV is seeking a Campus Electrician at Whitworth University, an independent, journey-level contributor responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems across the university’s campus. This role ensures safe, reliable electrical service while supporting long-term campus infrastructure planning and compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

Perform journey-level electrical work on campus systems including primary and secondary distribution, building electrical service, lighting systems, motors, pumps, emergency generators, transformers, campus clocks, and low-voltage systems
Diagnose and repair electrical malfunctions; perform preventive maintenance on electrical equipment and systems
Ensure all work complies with applicable state, county, and federal codes and Whitworth safety standards
Document work performed, materials used, and recommendations for system improvements
Review construction drawings, electrical plans, and specifications for renovation, repair, or new construction projects
Coordinate and oversee contracted electrical work, ensuring alignment with project specifications and electrical code
Collaborate with the Maintenance Supervisor, project managers, and external partners to support project planning and execution
Maintain a clean, safe, compliant work environment and model safe work practices
Perform accurate locates of buried utilities in accordance with state law and campus procedures
Serve as a resource to campus partners regarding electrical capacity, equipment needs, and safety considerations
Respond to after-hours and weekend emergency calls as needed
Support Facilities Services in meeting Washington State Labor & Industries (L&I) requirements and internal campus safety standards
Participate in required safety training and contribute to campus-wide safety initiatives
Oversee and train student assistants as needed
Collaborate with other skilled trades to support general campus maintenance when appropriate
Contribute to a positive, service-oriented culture within Facilities Services

Required

Washington State Journey-Level General Electrical (01) License
High school diploma or GED
Demonstrated proficiency in interpreting blueprints, technical diagrams, and electrical schematics
Strong working knowledge of Washington State electrical codes and applicable safety regulations (WAC, NEC, OSHA)
Demonstrated experience with safe operation and maintenance of electrical tools, equipment, and motorized devices
A personal commitment to the Christian faith and to the integration of faith and learning
A commitment to the educational mission of Whitworth University as a comprehensive Christian liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church
Valid driver's license and the ability to meet Whitworth's driving requirements
Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) and maintain accurate documentation
Physical ability to meet job requirements, with or without accommodation, including lifting to 50 lbs. regularly and occasionally heavier loads with assistance; standing, kneeling, bending, climbing ladders, and navigating mechanical spaces
Ability to build positive working relationships with students, staff, faculty, contractors, and the public
Deep, up-to-date knowledge of electrical theory, codes, tools, and diagnostic processes; ability to troubleshoot complex systems independently
Consistently models safe practices; applies regulations to daily work; identifies hazards and contributes to a culture of shared safety responsibility
Analyzes issues, evaluates options, and implements solutions with minimal direction; exercises strong professional judgment in dynamic campus environments
Partners effectively with colleagues, departments, and contractors; maintains a friendly and solutions-focused presence; communicates clearly and openly
Manages multiple tasks, shifting priorities, and urgent requests while maintaining high-quality work
Handles sensitive campus infrastructure responsibly; demonstrates reliability, ethical conduct, and high personal accountability

Preferred

Experience working in higher-education or other campus-based environments
Experience with low-voltage systems (security, access control, fire alarm, or similar)
Experience reviewing construction plans or working with contractors in a facilities setting
