Responsibilities

Plan, design, and build new equipment to target the high-sensitivity requirements for an ion-trap based quantum computer
Communicate results both internally and externally through documentation, publications, and presentations
Work in a research lab environment to collect and analyze data on system and device performance

Required

Bachelors in physics or engineering
Minimum 5 years experience (degree inclusive) with trapped ions, neutral atom cooling & trapping, and/or atom-based quantum computers
Minimum 5 years experience (degree inclusive) involving one or more of the following areas: experimental atomic physics, experimental optics & lasers, precision experimental control systems
Minimum 2 years experience (degree inclusive) building complex atomic physics systems
Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen
Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. person (defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status)

Preferred

Masters or PhD in physics or engineering
Experience with design or operation of a device for quantum information processing
Experience with laser cooling and trapping of ions or neutral atoms
Experience with design and implementation of complex optical apparatuses
Experience performing simulation and modeling to inform experiments and/or data analysis
Experience programming experimental control systems for data collection, signal processing, and data analysis
Experience with software version control and data archiving
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including documentation for colleagues and collaborators
Strong collaboration skills
Strong organizational and leadership skills
