Responsibilities

Oversee daily administration and operations such as establishing appropriate procedures and protocols, proficiency testing, quality control, departmental quality assurance, lab safety, measures, work schedules, supplies and billing review

Provide lead work direction, involving training employees, scheduling laboratory staff, assigning and reviewing work, and providing input to employee selection and performance evaluations

Accountable for maintaining all laboratory certifications and accreditations

Perform a variety of clinical laboratory tests, including performance of high and moderate complexity testing in addition to waived clinical laboratory tests as defined by CLIA

Ensure accurate collection and proper handling of specimens, including phlebotomy and preparation of specimens, to maintain specimen integrity

Monitor the usage of automated and manual data and reporting systems, such as a laboratory information system to maintain laboratory records of laboratory tests conducted, monitor patient data and information accuracy to prepare reports

Required

Thorough knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to the operation of a clinical laboratory and clinical laboratory quality control procedures, protocols and standards

Thorough knowledge about laboratory operations, including current accreditation standards and regulations

Possess a thorough knowledge of clinical laboratory quality control procedures and standards

Ability to provide lead work direction to professional and support laboratory staff

Possess skills, knowledge, and abilities consistent with State license including those related to phlebotomy and maintain current continuing education

Possess comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of clinical laboratory science and the use and care of laboratory equipment

Ability to develop procedures, quality control checks and instructions necessary for new or modified tests

Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science or equivalent from an accredited institution or equivalent post-secondary education, training and experience as defined by the California Division of Laboratory Science

Two years of increasingly responsible and diverse experience as a journey-level Clinical Laboratory Scientist. (Microbiology, Hematology, Immunology)

Must possess and maintain a valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Must possess and maintain a valid current basic life support CPR certificate
